Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan: 7 Things Only A True-Blue Mumbai Girl Will Relate To

Mumbai can be the city of dreams or the city that never sleeps but for a true Mumbaikar, it’s always going to be Bombay. Everyone is busy rushing somewhere or the other here, but there’s something about this madness that makes us fall in love with the city. So it’s no surprise that people from across the country flock to this crowded concrete jungle, with hopes that it might make all their dreams come true.

Mumbai can seem intimidating to most, but the people who have been living in this city have a different story to tell. The city gives you opportunities, love and warmth. It doesn’t matter if you moved to Bombay a few years ago or if you were born here, this metropolis will make you feel at home and it will accept you the way you are.

But if you’re a true Mumbai Ki Ladki, then you know more about this city than anyone else. All the beaches, delicious street food, kickass nightlife and freedom is too good to ignore. Plus there’s a certain pride to being a Bombay girl because honestly, we know we’re ek dum hatke!

Here are a few things that a true-blue Bombay girl can relate to.

1. Ladies Special

You cannot be a Bombay girl if you haven’t aced all the local train hacks. First one being that ladies special is actually not-so-special because it is crowded AF! You know how to push your way in and out of the local train no matter how crowded it is, and you know how to ‘book’ your seat and adjust in that teeny weeny space. And let’s not even talk about the Mumbai local fights!

2. Chaand Pe Jaoge?

All Mumbaikars know of the zidd and nakhras of the autowale bhaiya! Getting a rickshaw for your destination is a major struggle so when the autowallah says yes, you ALWAYS do that little mental dance. And dare they say no to a Bombay girl, coz that when they’ll be *rewarded* with a sassy comment.

3. Extra Mirchi Dena, Bhaiya!

We know that girls love spicy pani puri but Bombay girls love the mirchi that comes with their delicious vada pav! And let’s be honest, vada pav is incomplete without the extra mirchi. FYI, Kirti College ka vada pav is THE BEST and everyone knows that!

4. Tapri Wali Cutting Chai

Vada pav is great but Bombay ki baarish calls for some cutting chai with it and the true-blue Mumbai girls know that. But TBH, even when there’s no monsoon, we all have that tapri ki cutting chai near your office is just too good to pass off.

5. Street Shopping Chodo, Local Shopping Chalo

If you’re a true Bombay girl, you know what we mean. Street shopping may be amazing but it cannot beat all those pairs of pretty earrings that you bought from that Mumbai local wali aunty at dirt cheap rates.

6. SoBo Ya Suburbs?

Not all Bombay girls are the same, and if you’re a Mumbaikar, you know that. There are Bombay girls and then there are SoBo aka South Bombay girls. And you know what town, SoBo, suburbs and burbs mean, which is something that only a Bombay girl will get!

7. Pre-Booze Karen?

But whether you’re a SoBo girl or a Bombay girl, pre-booze toh sab karte hain. We know those nightclubs are super expensive and they rip us off, so we always pre-drink before hitting the club. And if you’re a Bombay girl you know all about Gokul, Sunlight, Janta and Atithi. Also, club-hopping ka sapna chod do, ‘coz traffic.

Jo bhi ho, we Bombay girls are truly savage, classy, bougie, and sometimes ratchet. And we owe it all to aamchi Mumbai!
