The big, fat, Indian wedding along with being a whole lot of fun, is also responsible for being a nuisance to the environment. There’s noise pollution with the loud band-baaja and DJs, and not to mention the garbage that’s collected. Due to all this and so much more, it’s no secret that our planet is dying a slow death.
There’s a growing need for people to take it upon themselves to make small changes to their lives in order to move towards a more sustainable tomorrow. Bollywood stars have become the flag-bearers of promoting a more eco-friendly outlook to desi weddings and it’s inspirational.
TV actors Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla recently got married and made quite the social media stir with their shaadi. In order to do their bit for the environment, the couple opted for a fully bio-degradable wedding invite made of MDF and recyclable paper.
“True Love nurtures and nourishes the soul! With this thought, we wanted to gift ‘a life’ to our friends to mark the beginning of our new journey and thank them for being with us through our thick and thin. The love is not only for people and by people but we both have love for nature as well hence, physically our invite is organic and totally biodegradable! The cards are made of MDF wood and recycled paper! We want to encourage people to keep weddings fun and nature-friendly”, she said.
Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja too opted for e-invites for their wedding. The invitations even went viral on social media and proved that it is actually a cost-effective and eco-friendly way of asking people to save the date. So bye-bye to wasting loads of paper and slowly killing the lungs of the Earth.
Not long ago, Pari actor, Anushka Sharma and Indian skipper, Virat Kohli also chose the green alternative. Instead of choosing the hackneyed dry fruits to go along with the wedding invite, they gave a sapling to all their guests.
Model and marathon runner, Milind hottie Soman married his longtime bae Ankita Konwar in an intimate ceremony in Alibaug and chose a green way to celebrate their love. The couple planted a sapling for each guest that attended their wedding. OMG! What a beautiful concept, right!?
Just think about the amount of good you’ll do for the Earth by indulging in a similar tradition on your wedding day. Tree plantation drives are so important and you’ll always have a special, happy spot to remember your big day with.
So guys, let’s try and take some tiny measures to help save the planet we’re living in. This is the only one we have.
