Bollywood has over the decades taken over and ruined many movies, from the iconic Hollywood versions to the lesser known regional films. On my journey of finding the worst Bollywood remakes, I found these 8 unbearable movies that come nowhere close to the charm the originals have.
1. Ok Jaanu
This film came with a set of high expectations, being an adaptation of the super hit Tamil film O Kadhal Kanmani, also made by Mani Ratnam. However, it didn’t convince the audience and was nowhere as impactful as the original despite being a scene to scene derivative.
2. Bang Bang!
Knight and Day wasn’t a brilliant film but let’s be honest, it was way funnier than this strange translation (adaptation) of it. And let’s not forget Katrina Kaif’s brilliant acting skills.
3. God Tussi Great Ho
Even God couldn’t save this movie, nor could Amitabh Bachchan. This terrible version of Bruce Almighty was cringy and exceptionally disturbing, ruining the Jim Carrey original.
4. Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta
‘Inspired’ by Jim Carrey’s Liar Liar, this movie was saved by Govinda’s comic timing and yet it stood nowhere close to the original. Don’t believe me? Watching it again, but this time through the eyes of an adult.
5. Ekk Deewana Tha
Gautham Menon remade his own Tamil film, Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya in Hindi starring Amy Jackson, who was also the lead in the Tamil version, opposite Prateik Babbar. The film had all the makings of a good film but failed to make an impression.
6. Khushi
You should watch this movie solely because it’s so bad that it’s good. Kareena Kapoor is at her best, and there is never a dull moment. But it comes across as a spoof of the original Tamil film, Kushi.
7. Heyy Babyy
The history of this movie could be another article of its own. In 1985, Three Men And A Cradle released in French and the film was made into Three Men And A Baby in 1987, followed by a Marathi adaptation called Baalache Baap Brahmachaari in 1989. But the Malayalam and Telugu versions titled Thoovalsparsham and Chinnari Muddula Papa respectively didn’t release until 1990. Post which the Tamil version came out in 2001, called Asathal, making Heyy Babyy the last adaptation in 2007 and being by far the worst.
8. Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai
This film had Uday Chopra and he admits that he can’t act, so this comes as no surprise. A loose remake of the rom-com classic, My Best Friend’s Wedding, it definitely was a lot more to take in.
Which one will you be watching this weekend?
