Arshad Warsi was recently asked during an interview if there would ever be a Munna Bhai 3. To refresh your memory, Arshad played the iconic tapori character of Circuit to Sanjay Dutt’s soft-hearted goon, Munna Bhai. The movie was a superhit, but since the second instalment of the franchise (Lage Raho Munna Bhai) released ages ago, the actor shared that chances of a sequel are as good as none. He jokingly added “I think you should all go and go out to Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Raju’s house and threaten them to start fast. I don’t know. I don’t think it is going to work.”
While we would have loved some more doses of chemical lochas, it seems like a sequel is definitely off the table. Come to think of it, Bollywood has converted some unnecessary movies like Housefull, Golmaal, Dabangg into massive franchises with sequel after sequel being released like an annual event, whereas the good ones are left behind. We came up with a list of movies that deserve a Part 2 and we bet you’ll agree. Check it out!
7 Movies That Need A Sequel ASAP!
Here’s a list of the movies that either had an open ending or were simply too good to end.
Gulabo Sitabo
Recently on Kaun Banega Crorepati, a contestant on the hot seat named Mantosh Kashyap, candidly asked Amitabh Bachchan if there would be a sequel to his movie, Gulabo Sitabo. Surprised Mr Bachchan jokingly asked if the audience would even like to have a sequel, given that the movie didn’t perform well. Mantosh pointed out that the plot of the movie felt unfinished as the haveli, the epicentre of the movie, belonged to no one in the end.
Well, the quiz show host was mighty impressed and asked director Shoojit Sircar to look into the possibilities of a sequel. And we totally second that! Watching Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan share the screen together was a true delight and we would like to see more of it in the future.
Rang De Basanti
A group of young men, inspired by our legendary freedom fighters, fought against the injustice and corruption in India. Not only was the script truly gripping, but it ignited a fire within our hearts and a sense of patriotism in our minds. While the movie ended with the death of the brave hearts, a sequel revolving around Sue and Durga’s life would be interesting to watch.
Rockstar
What happened to Jordan?
Rockstar was an intense love story that featured Ranbir Kapoor (as Jordan) and Nargis Fakhri (as Heer). We saw Jordan’s entire journey, his rise and his fall and it broke our hearts when he lost the love of his life. But what happened after that? Did he find love again? Did he completely destroy himself? What about his music career and family? You see why we desperately need a sequel to this movie, right?
Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship
Okay, it is clear from the title itself that there is a high probability of part two. But, when??? We would like to know if the ‘Ghost of the Seabird’ was truly defeated. Also, what happened with the mental illness of Vicky Kaushal who could see the spirit of his wife and daughter? Did he recover? And lastly, did Meera get exorcised? Hope we get our answers soon.
Andhadhun
This dark comedy thriller was a massive hit and for all the right reasons – superb performances and a storyline that kept us on the edge of our seats. Even the ending was totally unexpected and won’t everyone love to know what happened after?! A sequel to this is definitely on our wishlist.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
We are a sucker for the larger than life holiday trips that Zoya Akhtar’s movies are famous for. Especially after spending almost an entire year quarantined at home, we would love to take a virtual tour and get our spirits high! Zoya, are you listening?
Wake Up Sid
By the end of Wake Up Sid, we saw Ranbir Kapoor aka Sid actually waking up from his man-child phase and evolving into a mature adult. But guess what? Adulting is no joke! We would really love to see how Sid is coping up with his life right now. Sid, give us some tips on adulting na, we think we need some!
Bollywood peeps, we hope you’re listening!
