Bright yellow, powder blue and leafy greens… these are some of the colours that Pantone says is cool for the summer. Many follow suit as well, with floral or tropical prints combined with these hues are usually considered seasonal essentials. Designers use it to mark their Spring/Summer collections and fashionistas go for them to play safe yet get a nod for the look they intended to pull off.
This particular summer, however, our trendy fashion girls seem to be in a mood to break all the rules. We have been spotting a few offbeat colours that might seem out of place in theory, but work tremendously well, even for a bright summer afternoon! We rounded up some of our top picks that will give your tonal summer Instagram a fresh jolt of colour and surprise your friends, who might have to do a double take let it settle in. We hope you are taking notes!
1. Eggplant
Priyanka Chopra is a bombshell and a half! That’s why it didn’t really surprise us when she stepped out in this deep purple Vivienne Westwood dress in the middle of the day to promote her show. We love eggplant (the colour, not so much the vegetable), so let’s make it a thing shall we?
POPxo Recommends: Purple Solid A-Line Dress (Rs 1,099)
2. Moss Green
Sounds awful but looks pretty damn good, Moss Green has truly gotten the short end of the bargain when it comes to colour nomenclature! This rich colour is often ignored in favour of lighter greens but Tamanaah’s ethnic number is taken at face value, the shade deserves a fighting chance at least.
POPxo Recommends: Cotton A-line Kurta with Sequin Embellishments (Rs 1,299)
3. Hot Pink
Ladies, we can’t stress this enough! Hot pinks are damn cool and are a sure standout at any evening event filled with bright reds and glittery gold sequins. Shruti added ruffles to the look and slays the look by pairing with a solid black slit skirt.
POPxo Recommends: Hot Pink Mid Waist Slim Trousers (Rs 1,899)
4. Mud Brown
Most people will call brown boring but its the colour of the earth and what better than a warm earthen colour to suit the season than this! Yami did it with a sequined long fitted skirt and that’s a pretty good way to step up your cocktail outfit game for your next fancy do.
POPxo Recommends: Spaghetti Strap Glitter Overlay Dress (Rs 1,304)
5. Candy Orange
Ilena D’cruz is a good example to look up when you want to get inspired on how to look youthful with your choice of styles and colours. Candy coloured clothing is a niche choice but the orange is a safe pass you can opt for this summer without blinding your besties!
POPxo Recommends: Orange Self Design One-Shoulder Top (Rs 2,299)
6. Ocean Blue
Powder blues for weddings and navy blues for formal events, we do feel these colours are done and dusted quite enough. Ocean blues can be a rich alternative to all the used up blue numbers in your closet, Diana used it to put on a colour blocking outfit fit for a lady travelling in style!
POPxo Recommends: Handloom Bengal Begampuri Woven Pallu Saree (Rs 3,359)
7. Mellow Yellow
Kriti Sanon took a detour from bright yellows with a dirtier version of the colour, a cousin of mustard. Rocking floral separates in this mellow yellow hue, we can’t wait to put something like this on for a glamorous Sunday night dinner.
POPxo Recommends: Mustard Yellow Solid Shift Dress (Rs 1,650)
