I Was Thrown Out: Bhumi Pednekar On Her Rs 13 Lakh Ka ‘Jhatka’ & Flunking Acting School

Before becoming a sensational actress, Bhumi Pednekar was a casting assistant at Yash Raj Films. If you knew that information already (thanks to the best celebrity gossip show in India aka Koffee with Karan Season 6), then now you’re bound to know how Bhumi ended up as a casting assistant in the first place. It was because she flunked her acting school and had a hefty loan on her head to repay!

Okay, so let us start at the very beginning. Bhumi, obviously, did not just wake up one fine day and became an actress overnight. She had to go through a wholesome (read: extremely difficult) process to reach where she is today. She started by telling her parents about her career choice and then joined an acting school at her own risk. Bhumi recently said in an interview, “First, I tried to convince my parents that I want to be an actor. I finally mustered the courage to speak to them about it. They weren’t very happy and I think they were being protective of me. So, I decided to join a film school. The fee was high, so I took a loan.”

Well, so what was the problem? Bhumi is quite a talented actress and that she has proved it with her amazing performances in movies like Saand Ki Aankh and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. It should have been easier for her to ace drama school and enter straight into showbiz. Except, it wasn’t that easy. She failed acting school, and was in debt–she had to pay off Rs 13 lacs! “I failed film school not because I wasn’t a good actor but because I wasn’t disciplined enough and that was the biggest jhatka. I was like, I have screwed up—and I had this Rs 13 lakh loan on my head — it’s a huge amount,” Bhumi said in the interview.

That was when she started job hunting and landed herself an important position at the Yash Raj Films, as a casting assistant. Bhumi had already spilled the beans on Karan’s show that as casting director, she loved Parineeti Chopra’s audition and spontaneity but was left unimpressed with Disha Patani’s audition. Later, when Bhumi was sure that the time was right, she chose to audition for Dum Laga Ke Haisha and bagged the role. And as they say, the rest is history!

On a side note, isn’t Bhumi’s all-bronze beauty look to die for? She is killing it with that dramatic eye makeup and golden dress. If you want to recreate her, these products will help you get there!

Coming back to Bhumi’s jhatka, recently on No Filter Neha Season 5, Bhumi once again talked about her acting school days with Neha Dhupia. She had great advice for all the people who aspire to become actors and want to join drama school. She said, “I was thrown out, I did not drop out. They asked me to leave. Because imagine, you’re thrown out of film school, I was like that’s the worst. Because my attendance was so low, I didn’t attend. It was horrible. But, I do recommend if anybody truly wants to go study film, there’s a certain age for it. Don’t do it when you’re 16-17, because you’re not going to take it seriously.”

Well, that is some advice that you really should follow if you are seriously considering acting as a career choice. You really don’t want a debt of Rs. 13 lakh, do you? Bhumi Pednekar was last seen in Dolly Kitty Aur Wo Chamakte Sitare and will soon be seen in her upcoming movie Durgavati. Hope you guys are excited!
