My mom says that all of us would have lost our minds way back in 2020, had it not been for the internet. I second that. The past year-and-a-half has not been easy. However, it would have certainly been more difficult in a world without the internet and our dependable OTT platforms. Looking for that much-needed respite from the shit show that the world around us feels like, we’ve watched all kinds of shows. In fact, 2020 made me a binge-watcher as I explored my fascination for the fantasy genre.
Now, I am not exactly going to say that I was converted or something on that line. The fact is that I have always been a sucker for fantasy aka a good escape. The lockdown simply had me looking out for more. Every time I finish watching a fantasy show, I instantly start looking for another one. The criteria is simple–it should be good enough to help me believe that there exists an alternative reality and, more importantly, magic.
Well, this should tell you that I have watched enough of them to help you with a mind-blowing list of recommendations and today, I am doing just that. Read on!
6 Fantasy Shows That Will Help You With The Much-Needed Escape
So the second installment of Lucifer’s 5th season just got released and the craze explains everything. The truth is that everyone needs a good fantasy right now and here is a list of the six most interesting shows that you should stream ASAP:
Lucifer
Hell and heaven…black and white…sins and virtues. Since forever we have been taught to look at life through contrasting binaries. However, as they say, the mind is its own place and can make hell out of heaven and heaven out of hell. Case in point? The very gorgeous Tom Ellis who has made legions side with Satan by playing the titular character in the hit show Lucifer. As the fallen angel navigates life on Earth, there is so much revealed and so much that changes about him and about the way we look at Satan. Meanwhile, the story also revolves around detective Chloe Decker, the (human) woman that Lucifer falls head over heels in love with after rejecting Eve.

The Good Place
If Lucifer gets you going then chances are that you’d also be hooked to The Good Place. With Kristen Bell in the lead role as Elanor, the show explores life after death. This is a very interesting take on the concept of hell and heaven, redemption, and morality. Elanor ends up in a heaven like place after her death but constantly feels like she is trapped like she does not belong. What happens next will blow your mind!

Always A Witch
Carmen (Angely Gaviria), a 17th-century witch and slave is mysteriously transported to modern-day Colombia right when she is about to be burnt at a stake. It is suddenly a new world–she is just beginning to realise her powers and read minds. Yup! But there is more to it. While she is falling hard for the modern world that treats her like an equal (and not a slave) and lets her go to college, she also has to hunt for the evil sorcerer who exploits powerful witches like her. Also, she has left her lover back in the 17th century and considers him dead until she ends up receiving a letter from him through a magic portal. Looking for magic? There is a lot of it in this show and while you marvel at the fantasy, the beautiful town of Cartagena is sure to leave you equally enchanted.

The show revolves around the story of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) who lives in a small town called Storybrooke. This town is home to multiple fairytale characters. Of course, there is an interesting twist–all these characters aren’t in a fairytale but are actually living the most average of lives. There is also an evil queen in the show called Regina with a modern-day rendition of the “curse.” With Dinseyfied visuals and the perfect cast, this show is a feel-good watch and is sure to transport you to an entirely different world.
