Like most award shows in the last year, the Golden Globes 2021 were held keeping safety in the fold. With nominees and participants attending virtually from across locations, the red carpet too, went virtual, as is the norm given the current situation. Not that the absence of a physical awards ceremony had the actors compromising on style. From voluminous gowns and sleek evening dresses to old Hollywood glamour, dressing up to the nines was the order of the day. We curated a list of the best dressed from the ceremony and let’s just say it was a winning event for stunning red carpet appearances.
Volume & Drama
An awards presentation without voluminous gowns on the forefront? We don’t think so! Rosamund Pike, who won ‘Best Actress’ for her film I Care A Lot chose to wear a tulle pink offering from Molly Goddard. She was joined by Bridgerton‘s Nicola Coughlan who chose a dramatic yellow version from the designer for the virtual showcase.
Metallic Leanings
Sarah Paulson pulled out all the stops in a chic off-the-shoulder look by Prada, one that came emblazoned with subtle placement embellishment. On the other hand, Regina King went all out in an embellished gown from Louis Vuitton. With 40,000 sequins, the asymmetrical neckline incorporating look took over 350 hours to be completed. Take a look at the dazzling outfits below.
Slips For the Win
In a truly regal outfit, the Queen Gambit‘s Anya Taylor-Jou opted for an emerald-hued Dior gown—a fitted slip dress with a matching cover-up. Going a similar route in Gucci, Elle Fanning wore an icy-blue evening gown with details and drapes to spare, rounding it up with a perfect pink-hued lip colour. Tux Redux
It wasn’t all about dresses either; Jane Fonda and Laura Dern went for structured suits, both choosing monochrome looks to hit the ball out of the park. The former, who was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, chose a chic white suit while the latter worked an all-black attire from Givenchy.
Taking The Plunge
Dressed in Prada, Julia Garner wore a stop-in-your-tracks flapper-inspired gown with details to spare, the risqué neckline accompanied by intricate embellishment. On the other hand, Laverne Cox injected colour into her outfit, wearing a scarlet gown with exaggerated sleeve details from designer Thai Nguyen. Not to forget, some glam beauty looks FTW!
Retro Game
Emma Corrin won the ‘Best Actress’ trophy for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown and aptly dressed for the occasion, the actor wore a Miu Miu gown with emphasised ruffles and power shoulders. Also channelling a glam retro look was Andra Day, who wore an all-white Chanel gown with intricately done details. Take a peek at the outfits below.
Certainly a sartorial affair to remember!
