This week the runways of Milan had a welcoming aura for creativity and extravagance. It was a reminder that, though the natural beauty is of importance, in the same world and on the same platform, strategically striking trends and designs has their place too. A series of shows that had come-as-you-are vibe were followed by shows that featured modern, aesthetically pleasing acts, eye-catching embellishments and glamourous colours. From beauty looks such as sparkly eye make-up and unexpected bobs, designed to subvert to bold lip colours, the lessons to take were anything but subtle. Rather, in shows of the designers who make luxury more covetable for onlookers such as Dolce&Gabbana, it was a party for cool-royal-girls! So, here are a few beauty lessons and trends we can take forward from this season’s Milan Fashion Week.
1. Cheerful Eyeliner
The Italian catwalks said a big yes to fun, colourful eyeliners, which added exuberance to models’ classic beauty look. Fashion houses such as Tommy Hilfiger and Fendi opted for metallic silver shadow at the inner corner of the eye and along the lower lid. Salvatore Ferragamo added a jazzy flash of colour to the utilitarian tailored looks with a streak of electric blue liner. Though one thing we learned at Alberta Ferretti and Max Mara shows, is that classic winged eyeliner is never getting old. Ermanno Scervino, kept the winged eyeliner suited to lower lash line and boy, it looked edgy!
2. A Bob For All!
Considered as one of the trickiest haircuts to wear, bob cuts made a comeback on the runway in a completely individualistic and polished style. While model Stella Lucia walked in above-neck rebel look at Roberto Cavalli by hairstylist Paul Hanlon, Moschino welcomed a parade of Jackie Kennedy Onassis lookalikes in bob cuts, which was led by Kaia Gerber. What’s the lesson? There’s a bob for everyone, so don’t hold back from experimenting.
3. Glittery Cat-Eyes
Cat-eye look just got more glamorous and shinier. Eyeliners and eyeshadows are getting colourful makeovers and now sparkle and studs are being added to those colours. At Prada, Pat McGrath made the beauty look vibrant colour-esque with geometric eyeshadow. Handpicked hues by Mrs. Prada were seen on seven models, bedecked in a sequence of Swarovski crystals.
4. Hair Accessories Are The New Jewellery
Crystal-encrusted hair jewellery at Gucci was the new-age crown. Consider it Begum Mehrunisa’s jewellery from Padmaavat but, made with diamonds. Alessandro Michele’s crowns were layered over center-parted hair, laced hijab alike, fringing foreheads and more. Dolce&Gabbana added the crowning glory to their runway as well. The signature bejewelled crown and shimmering barrettes did not leave much room for more bling to fit.
5. Poppy Lips
Bold and colourful lipsticks are no more stared at or frowned upon, they are very much in fashion as per multiple shows in New York and London autumn-winter 2018, and Milan approves it too. Max Mara made it all about bubblegum shades and bright poppy tones such as lilac, hot pink. Lurid green at Annakiki show.
6. Floral Headbands
Floral headbands aren’t new to us. In her wedding, Anushka Sharma convinced us to use real flowers as hair accessories way before runway did. Dolce&Gabbana made those floral headbands look even more covetable.
So, which trend are you ready to try, right away?
