Unprecedented as the current time might be, it has certainly established a great example of human perseverance with our frontline workers emerging as the true heroes in the COVID-19 crisis. As the pandemic fears remain largely unabated, essential workers across the world have effectively proven that no matter what, they’d always be vital. And while it might not be the case with everyone, a lot of people across the world have actually taken cognisance of the fact. They have realised that while it is our actors and players that earn the most, it is, in fact, the essential workers who are actually facilitating our lives on a day to day basis and deserve the kind of reverence and accolades which is reserved for our celebrities otherwise.
Actor and singer Ayushmann Khurrana took to Instagram and Twitter yesterday to pay homage to all these frontline heroes through a touching poem. “This is for all the Frontline Warriors ~ fighting for us, saving us, risking their lives for us and our families against coronavirus,” he captioned his post.
In his simply-worded albeit poignant poem, Khurana can be seen addressing the general sense of fear that prevails everywhere as he attributes the current crisis to “the collective karma of mankind.” The Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan star then goes on hailing those who are still going out of their house to do their jobs to make things easy for those safe within the confines in their houses. From the sweepers to healthcare professionals, Khurana goes on to appreciate the spirit of all the essential workers who are fighting this war on our behalf.
Here is the poem:
Through the impassioned poem, Khurana has also urged everyone to give all the respect due to all of these essential workers once all of this over for it is the poor who has always run this country. He writes, “Is desh ko gareeb hee chalata tha. Gareeb hee chalayega. Humein is samay bhi sab suvidhaaen gareeb hee dilaayega. (It was the poor who ran this country. It is the poor who’ll run this country. And even in the current crisis, it is the poor who are ensuring that we have all the facilities).
In a rather honest moment in the poem, the actor also says that the Bollywood actors that we refer to as heroes have earned this distinction just by a matter of chance. He writes, “Hum sab Bollywood hero hain bas naam me.”
Praises have been pouring on for the actor as well as all the frontline heroes ever since he posted the poem on social media. Here’s how the Twitterati have been reacting to the poem:
Now that even our “heroes” have come out to hail the actual heroes in the current crisis, may we all see through it all and appreciate those who have been fighting this war for us all.
