LED Light Therapy: Everything You Need To Know About The Celeb-Approved Skincare Trend

I’ve been stalking celebrity beauty routines and found a new skincare trend that many of them are going gaga over. It’s called LED Light Therapy. This skin treatment was previously only available in skin clinics, but now a bunch of LED skincare devices can be used at home too.

Dua Lipa and Deepika Padukone swear by it and they’ve even posted selfies with their favourite at-home LED light therapy devices on the ’gram. It’s a game-changing approach to skincare and I’m here to tell you all about it.

What Is LED Light Therapy?

LED light therapy consists of using light emissions to treat multiple skin concerns. It may seem gimmicky at first, but there actually is some science behind it. The lights help stimulate skin cells so that the skin can heal itself over time. It also enables the skin to absorb skincare products better.

Benefits Of Different Lights Used In LED Light Therapy

The device is known to treat everything from acne to fine lines and even stubborn dark spots. A different colour treats a specific skin concern.

Red Light

This light setting on LED skincare devices stimulates skin cell activity and promotes collagen production. It is a boon for ageing skin as the light can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The WINSTON 3 in 1 LED Light Therapy Face Mask is a great affordable at-home LED face mask available in India.

Blue Light

This colour reduces the skin’s tendency to produce excess sebum. It also helps clean pores and get rid of acne-causing bacteria. Since my skin is acne-prone, this will work great for me.

The House of Beauty 7 Colour Photon LED Mask is one of the high-quality skincare devices I’m considering investing in.

Green Light

This light targets melanin production and is perfect for treating dark spots, acne scars, and pigmentation. Whenever my skin is plagued with too many post-breakout scars, the green light setting is what I opt for on my at-home LED facial device.

The Protouch Skin Lift Device has a green light for pigmentation and I love using it to massage my skin.

How Often To Use At-Home LED Skincare Devices?

Be it an at-home LED mask or an LED face massage tool, it is recommended to use the light therapy device 3 to 5 times in the first week. After the fourth week, you can gradually reduce the number of times you use it.

Are There Any Risks Involved?

LED light therapy is a non-invasive skincare treatment and is pain-free. Some reported side effects of this treatment are redness and swelling but it isn’t permanently damaging to the skin. There is a lesser risk of using at-home LED skincare devices than the ones used in clinics since the latter is more powerful than at-home devices.
