There is nothing more terrifying than battling with your own mind every single day. That’s exactly what mental illness is – a battle against your own mind. But some people have certain preconceptions and believe mental illness to be a cool thing to have, an act of seeking attention or simply a trend to be part of. This leads to treating people with mental disorders insensitively and branding them with words such as “mad” or “retarded”.
That is why to make people understand and aware of how it feels to battle a mental illness, Graphic designer Eisen Bernard Bernardo, attempted to depict various types of mental disorders using something as tiny as a paperclip. The result? A series of 8 thought-provoking illustrations that will change the way you think about mental illness.
1. Depression
2. Substance Abuse
3. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
4. Dissociative Identity Disorder
5. Bipolar Disorder
6. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
7. Eating Disorder
8. Anxiety
It is important for all of us to come together and stop the stigma against mental illness. If you know someone suffering with mental illness, let them know you care. It is THE one gesture that can make a lot of difference to their life. Always be kind.
