Amazon India Fashion Week autumn/winter 2018 is bringing simplicity back with pleasing palettes. I call it pleasing because it was all about easy-on-the-eyes or balanced colour combinations on the runway — black with white, subtle cream to balance the brightness of teal. Contemporary and experimental silhouettes with minimalistic designs were followed by dramatically textures and embroidered outfits. Out of many interesting ones, bold-yet-feminine pattern was actually the runway spread to look forward to. Malini Ramani’s saree styles, Vineet Bahl’s version of the bomber jacket and Anupamaa Dayal’s kitsch palette were some of the highlights. AIFW A/W 2018 had a lot to say in terms of diverse designs but here are a few runway trends that’ll cover you up for the season.
1. Mission Monochrome!
Trend: Monochromatic outfits
Seen@Ashish N Soni, Gauri & Nainika, Samant Chauhan, Pawan Sachdeva, Kommal Sood, Malini Ramani
It’s one of the chicest and safest trend to pull off and designers know it well. So this time, they’ve given us enough varieties to pick from. If paired right, it can be worn at both, party and formal events.
2. Floored by Florals
Trend: Floral prints and embroideries
Seen@Shyamal & Bhumika, Vineet Bahl, Anupamaa Dayal, Gauri & Nainika, Abraham & Thakore, Defiance Adarsh Gill
Flowers in autumn/winter? Why not! In fact, it was the most common trend at AIFW this time. Pick the right size of print as per your body type and occasion and you’re good to go. For instance, Nikasha’s flowy florals would make a great mehendi outfit but Vineet Bahl’s bomber jacket is for the party night.
3. Botanical Love!
Trend: Prints and embroideries inspired by nature
Seen@Abraham & Thakore, Patine, Samant Chauhan, Saaj by Ankita, Rina Dhaka, Shyamal & Bhumika
Perfectly summing up the autumn feels, botanical prints are much more than just flowers. Flowy and delicate patterns inspired by nature are perfect for special events. It’s best paired with neutral make-up.
4. Belt It Up
Trend: Belts
Seen@Abraham & Thakore, Malini Ramani, Vineet Bahl, Not So Serious by Pallavi Mohan
Cinching the waist is not only popular on the runway but it’s also a popular practice amongst Bollywood stars. Lately, many Bollywood actresses have been adding a belt to their sarees and gowns including Shilpa Shetty, Deepika Padukone and Bhumi Pednekar. It helps you sculpt your body better and makes your look edgier. The good news is that designers are experimenting with all kinds of belts, from fabric to leather.
As you can easily pull off all these trends, which one are you trying first? We would love to know!
