When the Koreans kickstarted the glass-skin trend, little did they know it would blow up. Now, the whole world’s obsessed. Sure, it may initially seem unattainable – that sleek, glossy, and smooth texture that defines healthy skin. But they didn’t gatekeep and revealed all the ingredients that helped them get the unattainable.
From snail mucin to cica – they brought multiple ingredients to the limelight. But one we weren’t expecting? Rice. The Koreans use rice in all forms and don’t let even the water they use to wash it in go to waste! Before we explore all the different ways to use rice for the skin, let’s explore what rice actually does for the skin.
Benefits Of Rice For The Skin

- Brightens the complexion and makes the skin even-toned by targeting dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines.
All The Ways You Can Use Rice For Your Skin
Fermented Rice Water
The most common and easiest way to use rice for your skin is by soaking rice in water. First, take a cup of rice and rinse it in water. Discard that water and then soak it in fresh water for at least an hour. Strain out the water and transfer it to a spray bottle. Let it sit overnight and use it as a mist in the morning and night before your skincare routine.
Rice Flour
If you’re more of a masking girlier, Roshni Chopra’s DIY mask has you covered. You’ll need to mix the following ingredients and let it sit on your face for 10-15 minutes before washing off.
- 2 tbsp rice flour
- 1 tsp honey
- 2 tbsp milk
Fermented Rice
Boil rice in water. Once cooked, let it sit in the water for 3-4 hours. Then blend it well until it’s a thick, creamy mixture, and apply it to your face and neck.
As an alternative, you can also add a dash of coconut milk or aloe vera gel to this mixture for an additional hydration boost.
