Like the ideal big sister, Shaheen introduced Alia to skincare. But I don’t have a sibling to navigate beauty with, let alone have someone build me an A-Z skincare guide for Christmas. That’s why I’m constantly researching ingredients and reviewing products on my own.
The Bhatt sisters recently dropped their routines on YouTube, and I have to say, I felt like I had two sisters looking out for my skin! And I picked up some valuable lessons from them. I’ve put them together for you to refer to as well. Scroll on!
There’s No ‘One-Size-Fits-All’ Concept In Skincare
Alia and Shaheen’s skin types, tones, and concerns are different, that’s why their routines are unique. Alia has sensitive and combination skin while Shaheen’s is prone to pigmentation, acne, and dryness. These differences guide their routines.
You Don’t Need To Spend Too Much On Products
Alia and Shaheen’s routines aren’t extravagant. Drugstore, cost-effective products, like the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, are great too. They believe the price of a product does not add to its effectiveness.
Dry Skin Can Experience Acne As Well
Acne isn’t exclusive to oily skin types. Though Shaheen’s skin is dry, she deals with acne because, to compensate for the dryness, her oil-producing glands go into overdrive. This triggers excessive oil build-up and flare-ups on the surface causing acne.
Everyone Needs A Moisturiser
Moisturising is a must for all skin types, regardless of how oily or dry your skin feels. Remember that oiliness isn’t equivalent to moisture or hydration. The d’you In My Defence moisturiser is composed of ceramides and hydrates the skin thoroughly.
Indian Women Are More Likely To Develop Dark Under Eyes
Shaheen talked about struggling with dark under-eyes. I did some research and found out that Indian women are more likely to develop dark circles because we have more melanocytes (melanin-producing cells). This is absolutely normal.
Pimple Patches Are Life-Saving For Pimple Pickers
Not just because they treat your acne, but because as per Alia, they prevent her from picking on her pimples. If you find yourself itching and fidgeting with your zit, try a patch. The Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch is Alia’s go-to.
Skincare Isn’t Always Governed By Rules
Shaheen doesn’t cleanse her skin in the morning. Since A.M. cleansing dries her skin out, she double-cleanses in the evening only. This proves that skincare is customisable and unique to different concerns.
Actives Aren’t Always Friendly
The older Bhatt sister recalls overindulging in actives that damaged her skin barrier temporarily. Remember that actives are inherently harsh and stripping. That’s why you might want to limit your routine to two or three actives only. The aya 5% Glycolic Acid + 1% Polyglutamic Acid Face Serum Texture Corrector is gentle and skin-loving. It exfoliates mildly and controls oil production too.
Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides & Peptides Go Well Together
Since all three excel at hydrating and moisturising the skin, it makes sense to pair them together. This is especially important on days your skin feels dry and dull.
Pregnancy Makes Your Skin Sensitive
Alia’s skin felt more sensitive during her pregnancy. This applies to most women and happens primarily because of a change in hormones in the body.
More Is More With Sunscreen
To ensure they’re applying enough sunscreen, the sisters suggest practicing the two-finger rule because that’s exactly how much sunscreen the skin needs. The POPxo H2O Booster Sunscreen Gel is perfect because it’s light and fast absorbing. No cast or grease!
Eye Creams Aren’t Essential
You don’t necessarily need a separate eye cream or serum. You can apply your go-to moisturiser around the eyes to hydrate them and reduce puffiness. Or DIY an eye treatment.
I know I’ve picked up on a lot of skincare tips from the two of them. And I’m ready to get my glow on, like, ASAP.
