Zindagi Gulzar Hai Actress Sanam Saeed Inspired Alia Bhatt For Her Role In Kalank

Kalank has been creating a lot of buzz since its trailer launched. Now we can’t wait for the movie to hit the theatres. Viewers are super psyched to watch the love triangle between Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Aditya Roy Kapoor. While the entire cast of Kalank is busy with the promotions, Alia got candid in an interview about how she prepared for her character in the film.

Alia Bhatt’s character ‘Roop’ required the actress to adopt a graceful body language and speak flawless Urdu. To prepare, she watched a lot of old films. However, Alia’s inspiration came from an unexpected source. Director Abhishek Verman strongly recommended her to watch Zindagi Gulzar Hai to adopt the mannerisms and diction of the show’s characters. Alia got deeply inspired by the serial’s female lead, Kashaf Murtaza.

High on content and quality, shows from Pakistan were all the rage with the Indian audience a couple of years ago. Kashaf’s character is played by Pakistani actress Sanam Saeed. Co-starring Fawad Khan, Zindagi Gulzar Hai garnered a lot of popularity, courtesy the chemistry between its two most popular characters, Kashaf and Zaroon. Sanam’s character in the serial immortalised strong women-oriented roles on TV screens across the border. Kashaf is definitely a feisty character. She left a powerful impact on the audience with her portrayal of a simple, yet strong-headed woman.

In her interview, Alia said, “I watched a lot of old films like Mughal-E-Azam and Umrao Jaan to get an understanding of grace and body language. I had to clean my Hindi as I am speaking Urdu (in the film). Abhishek asked me to watch Zindagi Gulzar Hai. The character of the girl in the show is very much how Roop will deal with the situation. She has responsibility on her shoulders so she is not always a happy person. She is vulnerable yet strong. It is difficult (to bring so many) layers – unhappy, vulnerable and strong to a character.”

After finding out about Alia’s revelation and her secret source of inspiration, an elated Sanam Saeed took to Twitter to express her surprise, stating that she was ‘tickled pink’. Sanam also gave Alia wishes for her upcoming movie via a tweet: “Alia Bhatt, if this isn’t made up news, I’m tickled pink Best wishes. Xx!”
