I Didn’t Miss Him: Alia Bhatt Talks About Father Mahesh Bhatt’s Absence In Her Life

From warm-hearted chat shows to praise-filled interviews, Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt and daughter Alia Bhatt have always been affectionate towards each other. However, it turns out that such was not a case until Alia’s debut in Bollywood. During a recent interview, which she attended with mother Soni Razdan, Alia spoke about her father’s absence through her childhood and how it impacted their relationship.

Mahesh Bhatt was at the peak of his career when Alia was born in 1993. Soni was Mahesh Bhatt’s  second wife after he left Kiran and their two children, Pooja and Rahul Bhatt. During that year, Mahesh was also directing two to three films simultaneously and worked on a pretty tight schedule. Speaking about her father, Alia revealed, “He was just like a celebrity who would walk in to the house.”

Growing up, she didn’t really miss him because she didn’t really have him to herself much. It was only after a few years when he began spending some time with them and played board games every now and then. “The real friendship started when I entered the Bollywood industry and I understand how it must have been for him. It is such a consuming job,” she admitted.

Bollywood actress Soni Razdan, who shared the screen space with Alia as her on-screen mother in Raazi, reminisced Alia’s childhood. “Alia was a very obedient child, the only thing she was fussy about was what dress she wore. I would have to give her choices and she would pick her dress out knowing very well exactly what she wanted to wear,” she said laughingly. Alia happens to be extremely close to her mother. We often see them leaving mushy comments on each other’s posts on social media.

On the work front, Alia is currently on a high with the success of her latest movie, Gully Boy and will be seen next in Kalank with Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt. She will also share screen space with boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor in Brahmastra.
