The Internet Is Not Happy With Alia Bhatt’s Comment On Indian Brides

Alia Bhatt always manages to dominate headlines, whether for the right reasons or wrong. Her statements in interviews often become the subject of scrutiny, garnering widespread attention on the internet. Recently, her comment regarding the wedding lehenga that she wore in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has ignited controversy among netizens. This has proved once again that in Alia’s universe, even the most innocuous remarks can turn into headline sensations.

Recently, Karan Johar posted a video that featured the BTS of the wedding song in RARKPK, Kudmayi. In the song, Alia and Ranveer’s characters got married and the scene was shot just a few days after her real-life wedding. Alia’s character, Rani, was seen wearing a heavy orange Manish Malhotra lehenga, which was much unlike the simple Sabyasachi saree she wore at her actual wedding. While we loved both her minimal and OTT bridal looks, her remark on the same has left the internet furious.

She said, “Kudmayi was shot right after my wedding and I think I was wearing a 3000 kg lehenga because it was really heavy. I had to walk like a dream. I was like why do brides do that to themselves? Like why? But I did it for the movies.”

After the video went viral, the actress was chastised for her remark. Netizens attacked her in the comments section for insulting other brides for their choices. While some criticised Alia for exaggerating the fact that she wore a 3000 kg heavy lehenga, others mocked her for her strange flex about her real-life wedding attire.

One user wrote, “Because unlike actresses and models, they (brides) don’t get to wear these kind of outfits everyday, Alia,” another wrote, “Just because you have worn a hundred lehengas in your lifetime doesn’t give you the right to judge someone else’s big day,” and a third wrote, “She wore a lighter costume for her own wedding which is okay, but then she is pulling down the idea of brides wearing heavy lehengas.”

While we do understand why the internet is reacting this way to the comment, we don’t think Alia Bhatt meant it the way it was interpreted. We hope the actress doesn’t let all the flak affect her!
