Before Deepika and Alia, it was Aishwarya Rai who ruled the grandeur world of Sanjay Leela Bhansali films. From her meticulously designed outfits in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to her royal Bengali attires as Paro in Devdas, Aish’s opulent fashion choices have always made headlines. While the Dhoom 2 actress has also dolled up like a bride quite a few times in her movies, did you know she had put a condition on her wedding stylist for designing her shaadi ka joda? Scroll down to know:
Back in 2008, Aishwarya stunned everyone with her regal bridal look that comprised an intricately designed Kanjeevaram saree paired with gold temple jewellery. But the magical hands to put the look together were of celebrity designer, Neeta Lulla. In a recent interview with a leading daily, Neeta walked down memory lane and recalled what exactly went behind creating such a masterpiece bridal attire for the former Miss World. She also talked about how Aish had a picture of her as a bride planned in her mind beforehand. Neeta shared, “When we were discussing her wedding outfit, she was dressed in her Jodhaa wedding outfit. I remember her saying I’m not dressing like this for my wedding. I want to dress in a kanjeevaram so you have to figure what has to be done for that. Speak to my mother and you guys do your recce as to where you want to get it woven and what you want to do.”
Talking about her customized saree, the ace designer also highlighted how her outfit perfectly glorified the cultures and traditions of her Tulu roots. She further added, “Because she’s a south Indian, she’s a Tulu, she wanted that culture too. Her cultural upbringing, her cultural values and everything to exude in her look and her style statement and that’s exactly what we did. We got the saree especially woven for her and the blouse was also very basic 5-inch sleeve blouse like a lot of south Indians wear.”
For the unversed, Aish’s wedding attire comes under the list of the most expensive shaadi outfits ever made in India. Her yellow-hued kanjeevaram saree which had real gold-threadwork embroidery and expensive crystals was approximately priced at Rs 75 Lakhs.
Aish and Abhishek’s wedding was no less than a grand festival. To add to the splendour factor, doting hubby Abhishek gifted Aishwarya an exquisite, all-diamond studded mangalsutra. The intricate piece featured two double strings, complemented by a dainty diamond pendant at the end. Reportedly, it cost around Rs 45 Lakhs.
