Green tea has been all the hype in the past years and everybody is joining the bandwagon. After all, it is one of the least processed tea made from unoxidized leaves and has a lot of health benefits that we previously didn’t know about. It is widely consumed in India and China but let’s face it, both these countries have an unmeasurable love for tea, in general!

There are many types of green tea, Sencha and Matcha being two of the most commonly known. The variations have different harvesting techniques and environments that they’re grown in. Since it’s easy and light, the tea can be served both cold and hot, with ginger or lemon or honey, or all three, depending on your preference. Though it may have just been reduced to a fad, something to be had after the ice creams, the pancakes, the chocolates, and the whatnots, the tea by itself has a lot to offer. But only if taken in the right amount, the ideal 2-3 cups per day. Having too many cups of green tea in a day could cause anxiety, nausea and digestive problems due to its caffeine content. 

The advantages of green tea are spread across different parts of your body, from the brain to your skin, and your immunity system, it has something for every aspect of you.

Partially because it’s a healthy warm drink which will comfort you and partially because it has anti-bacterial properties that help fight infections, green tea is a great drink to have in bed when you’re down with a cold or flu. Also, add honey to it and watch it work it’s magic.

Green tea is rich in antioxidants which help detoxify your body and cleanse it of toxins. Another reason it helps in weight loss is that it curbs your craving for coffee, sodas, and other fatty drinks since it has a certain percentage of caffeine as well. 3. Boosts Your Immunity 

Since green tea is rich in antioxidants, polyphenol, and flavonoids, it helps fight off bacteria and influenza virus, perfect for those cold winter nights. Boosting your immunity in the process and making you healthier, energetic and rejuvenated.

4. Reduces Inflammation 

Another advantage of green tea is that it fights inflammation, especially if you suffer from arthritis. Since lemon also has anti-inflammatory properties, you could add some to your tea. A cup of lemon green tea after a long trekking session will make a huge difference.

If taken in regulated amounts, which is 2-3 cups a day, and alongside or after food, green tea helps benefits digestion. 

6. Fight A UTI

If you have a UTI, green tea’s antioxidant properties are a huge help. But use the loose leaves instead of tea bags, for faster results.

Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, green tea helps reduce gum diseases. But that’s not all, research says that drinking green tea kills the microbes that cause bad breath so that’s a win-win situation!

8. Treats Oily Skin 

Tannins found in green tea make for a great astringent, it shrinks your pores and helps reduce the oiliness caused by the production of sebum. So products containing green tea are a great investment for your skin if you have an oily t-zone. Or just dip a cotton ball in cold green tea and use it straight away.

The European Journal of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation found that people who drink green tea develop a better blood vessel function in just 30 seconds. Isn’t that reason enough?

10. Helps With Dark Circles

Swollen eyes, puffiness, and dark undereye circles are problems every girl faces. Place cold green tea bags on your eyes for about 5 minutes and see the difference it makes. Almost as good as a power nap!

11. Reduces Bad Cholesterol

Antioxidants found in green tea play a huge role in normalizing cholesterol levels. It lowers your bad cholesterol (LDL) and leaves your good cholesterol (HDL) untouched. But it has a different impact on everyone and will not bring you out of the high zone overnight. However, it is a good companion for those who are making changes in their diets and adopting exercise to lower their cholesterol levels.

One of the benefits of green tea is the fact that it helps sharpen your memory in the short term. And it also lowers the risk of Alzheimers and Parkinsons in old age. 

If you aren’t one who likes to drink tea, hot or cold, you could avail some of the health benefits by using the green tea power available in supermarkets and add them to smoothies or protein shakes.
