Making a mythological movie is no piece of cake. You have to be factually correct and mindful of what can trigger the audience. Just one tiny mistake can seriously land you in trouble. Something similar is happening with Om Raut’s Adipurush. The film has been receiving a lot of flak for its poor VFX, costumes, inaccuracy, and cringe dialogues. Since the film’s release, #BoycottAdipurush had been trending on social media. Things are getting progressively worse and now, Nepal has decided to ban its screening.
Bollywood viewers in Nepal are not happy with one of the scenes in Adipurush where Raghav (Prabhas) calls Janaki (Kriti Sanon) the ‘daughter of India’. This has caused controversy as according to the Ramayan, Sita was born in Nepal and not in India. Several people have been sharing their disappointment on social media and slamming the makers for messing with the facts.
Just recently, Kathmandu’s mayor Balen Shah posted a tweet following the uproar against Adipurush and wrote, “Until and unless the slogan ‘Janki is a daughter of India’ contained in the South Indian film ‘Adipurush’ is not true not only in Nepal but also in India, no Hindi film will be allowed to run in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. 3 days have been given to correct this. Hail to Mother Sita.”
Reportedly, many theatres in Kathmandu and Pokhara have already started replacing Bollywood movies with Hollywood and Nepali ones. The makers have decided to mute the controversial dialogue but the film’s screening is still halted in the country. Adipurush’s dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla has also said that they have decided to revise some more of the dialogues after facing backlash.
Well, not that the controversial dialogue has been muted, we hope the film’s screening gets resumed in Nepal!
