Everything To Know About Adarsh Gourav, The Actor From ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ Who’s Also A Great Singer
The trio in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan was compelling, and so was the movie, but for me, personally, it was Adarsh Gourav who stole the show. There are very few people who let their craft speak for themselves, and he seems exactly like that sort of a person. I remember seeing the actor in The White Tiger and Guns & Gulaabs – both performances being rock-solid by the way.
Following his latest project, my Instagram algorithm naturally adjusted to seeing bits and pieces of Gourav in interview bits, clips, and well… him singing, and that’s when I was gobsmacked, so to say. ‘With that voice, he could be one hell of a singer’, I thought as I shared the reels with my friends on Gram. You see, Gourav is a man of many talents with a growing trajectory of remarkable filmography, and lately, his soothing voice is what appeals to the audience the most.
I mean, take a look:
In fact, a week back, he released his new Hindi single titled Kho Gaye in collaboration with RUUH and JOH.
Born in 1994, Gourav was brought up in Jamshedpur, where he studied at Loyola School. His father worked in the Central Bank of India and was later transferred to Mumbai. He then completed his education from Smt. Lilavatibai Podar High School and Narsee Monjee College. He’s also studied at Mumbai’s Drama School.
Gourav has learned Hindustani Classical Music for nine years and developed a keen interest in Western Music during his junior college years, where he performed for the college band Steepsky. Reportedly, he was also the lead vocalist of a rock band named Oak Island, which appeared in MTV Indies’ Never Hide Sounds.
Once, in a 2021 interview with Firstpost, before the Netflix release of his first International film, The White Tiger, the interviewer asked him whether he still practised music. He said, “I do, every day. Also, in lockdown, I taught myself to play the guitar. I am no longer in a band as I was in college, but I want to sing professionally and for my characters in my films.” He added he was open for playback singing.”
You may not realise this, but we have all seen Gourav as a child actor. He was the young Rizvan in SRK’s My Name Is Khan. Yes, THAT was his debut movie in the Hindi Film Industry. Now, this isn’t surprising to see how and why he’s such an incredible actor, he’s been one since the very beginning.
Additionally, because of his exceptional work in The White Tiger, he was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in the Leading Role category. Whilst Anthony Hopkins helmed the trophy for The Father, Gourav came to be recognised as a great actor in the International setting.
In a promotional interview for Guns & Gulaabs, Gourav credited the Central Bank of India — yes, his father’s office — for introducing him to people and surroundings that later became an inspiration for his character in the series. Basically, it was because of the bank they shifted to Mumbai and lived in Juhu for 2.5 years, where he was around people who were economically well-off than him. This, he claimed, helped him play the rich guy in the series.
Apart from his more popular work, Gourav has also worked in Rukh, Madly, Mom, Leila, Die Trying and Hostel Daze.
Gourav is a true artist and a storyteller, at his core. Apart from being an actor, it is filmmaking and becoming a director, which is a part of his larger plan. “I don’t even know for how long I am going to be an actor. I want to direct films, I already write. I want to start directing, I want to be a filmmaker“, he told The Indian Express in a recent conversation.
To sum up, I’ve realised Gourav is a man of many talents. And his previous work is enough proof that he’s gonna be phenomenal at whatever he does. Very simply put – he’s AWESOME!
