The much-awaited night aka Met Gala 2023 has finally spread its wings all over the internet. Prominent names from all over the world came together to celebrate the legacy of late designer Karl Lagerfeld through the theme ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.’ While the Met steps witnessed loads of blacks and whites, pearls and gold, there was also an oops fashion moment that no one anticipated.
Two A-listers turned up in a similar outfit for the gala! Hollywood actress Olivia Wilde and Vogue China’s editor-in-chief Margaret Zhang wore a vintage dress from Chloé that was inspired by one of Karl Lagerfeld’s 1983 designs.
The Tale Of Two Dress
Olivia wore an angelic long white dress with a side cutout detailing. Further, it features a turtleneck with a Violin in gold running all the way to her neck. She completed her look with statement earrings, a golden clutch, and original gilded cuffs with gold embellishments. Her dress was made by Chloé’s current designer Gabriela Hearst.
Margaret Zhang, on the other hand, wore the same dress but in black. However, Margaret’s dress featured a fuller skirt at the bottom with a long cape at the back with gold detailing around the hem. Unlike Olivia, Margaret added a sleek bangle, danity hoops, and a pair of sunglasses to complete the look. It is unclear whether her dress was designed by Chloé.
In 1983, the dress was designed by Karl Lagerfeld himself for Chloé and was dubbed the ‘Violin Dress.’ In 2013, American actress Chloë Sevigny re-wore the dress at fanfare.
Watching them click a picture together would have been even more iconic!
