This rumour is absolutely wild, yet absolutely true. This particular cult-favourite makeup tint was literally made for a different purpose altogether. Not for lips or cheeks, but for the nipples!
That’s right, who would’ve thought? So what is this coveted makeup tint and what’s the real story behind it? Let’s find out.
The Original Nipple Tint
One of the most popular blush tints of today, the Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain was originally formulated to be a nipple tint. Founders of the brand, Jean and Jane Ford created Benetint in San Francisco for exotic dancers to use on their nipples back in 1976.
It became a hit amongst exotic dancers because the nature-infused formula gave a rosy tint to their areolas so that the nipples look more pink, perky and prominent on stage.
The Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain is now a cult-favourite product that even celebs swear by.
How The Tint Made History?
In the 70s, an exotic dancer requested the founders to give her something that she can use to make her nipples more prominent. The Fords then decided to make a skin-friendly concoction of boiled rose petals and carmine to produce a rosy stain on the skin.
The woman who requested this product fell in love with Ford’s rosy concoction. She gave a bunch of bottles to other exotic dancers she knew and its demand spread like wildfire.
Is The Product Safe To Use On The Nipples?
If you check out the product on the Benefit Cosmetics website today, the description confirms the original story of Benetint and that it was originally made from rose and carmine which are both skin-safe ingredients. But it also mentions a disclaimer that the ingredients are periodically updated therefore meaning the modern formula changes.
But Benefit Cosmetics made a TikTok which went viral showing off how Benetint looks on a male model’s nipples.
Another nature-infused lip & cheek tint similar to the OG Benetint is the Ilana Beet Tint – Beetroot Pigmented Lip And Cheek Tint and I love using it with or without foundation.
