Our firsts are very important – first kiss, first job, first paycheck. Since we’re obsessed with beauty, our firsts might be a little different, but they are still as important to us. Think about the first trip you took abroad and you bought an expensive perfume at the duty-free. Or the time you waited for your salary ‘coz you had to buy that foundation you’d heard so much about. Take a trip down memory lane with us, as we recall our first big beauty buy.
I’ll start.
That First Bottle Of Chanel
Damage: Rs 7,372
Back in college, I was obsessed with all things classic: a string of pearls, LBD, red lipsticks and a bottle of Chanel was picture perfect. I’d talk to my friend, obsessing over Chanel No. 5–telling him how I was saving to buy a Chanel perfume. As luck would have it, my trip got canned. Fortunately, he was going to the US and was thoughtful enough to return with a beautiful bottle of Chanel No. 5. I used it every third day, savouring the sillage of ylang-ylang, aldehydes and vetiver. Yum.

That First Expensive Lipstick
Damage: Rs 2,417
I’m big on lipsticks but with this one, I completely feel for the leather packaging as well as sleek, steel case. I tried Givenchy’s Le Rouge Intense Color in shade Beige Plume. And there was no looking back. It made me feel like a million bucks then. Like it does now.

The Moment You Realise Just How Awesome Make-Up Is
Damage: Rs 5,000
I can still recall my first visit to a M.A.C store. This was about 8 years ago and I was studying in college. I think it was one of those moments when you realise how much there is to make-up and just how awesome it is– I bought my first M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid, Concealer and Strobe Cream. Wanna know the best part? I use them to this day.

‘Coz There’s Nothing More French Than Buying Guerlain In Paris
Damage: Rs 2,661
I’d used a friend’s Guerlain Cils Denfer Maxi Lash Volume Sculpting Mascara. Not only did it look amazing, it delivered volume that most advertising campaigns promised. Months later, I found myself in Paris and made my way to the flagship Guerlain store. It’s pricey but so worth it!

When YouTube Tutorials Make You Splurge
Damage: Rs 5,999
I used to watch many YouTube tutorials and there was one by Chrissy Teigen that really stood out. When Chrissy collaborated with Becca Cosmetics, I thought it’s like the stars aligned together. So I saved my pocket money for months and bought Becca X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette.

Damage: Rs 12,067
I heard about Vintner’s Daughter Serum when I was browsing through YouTube. It seemed like it was a marketing gimmick at first, so I did some research. The serum has 22 active botanical ingredients. I decided to give it a try and I couldn’t be happier. The hype was real! My skin looked so glowy, radiant and I totally ditched foundation for the next few months.

When Eye-Care Matters Over Everything Else
Damage: Rs 29,457
Now that I’m getting married, I feel like spending bordering insane amounts on beauty products is totally legit! Even if it’s an eye cream like Genaissance De La Mer The Eye And Expression Cream, I feel like it’s worth 25K! Yes, I know it’s a bit extreme, but if a serum/essence promises to take care of those fine lines and puffiness, then I’d rather give it a shot now than later!

Foundation Over Food
Damage: Rs 7,180
I was recently in Dubai and when I was planning my trip, I’d saved half my salary so that I could shop for a lot of make-up. Instead of buying gold, or clothes, or well, food. Out of my huge make-up haul, I spent the most on Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation and Urban Decay Naked Palette. And I’d do it all over again.

Travel Memories Be The Best
Damage: Rs 10,279
I remember I was in London and I tried Jo Malone perfumes for the first time. The ingredients were so fresh and unlike other perfumes who have more than 200 ingredients, perfumes have less than 40. I bought the Peony & Blush Suede and I love it! Every time I wear it, I think about my trip to Europe.
