When I was younger and more full of naïveté and hope, I never cared to invest in sneakers. I was also slightly intimidated by the world of sneakers because the idea of spending money on quality footwear seemed like something I could not identify or resonate with, to me sneakers were for bougie folks, not for regular joes like me. But as I grew older, I realised that sneakers are a smart choice, when it comes to money, they’re durable footwear that’s mostly worth the money. So, now I am embracing my interest in sneakers and delving more into it by discussing a couple of footwear options that are trending this season.

Here, take a look for yourself:

The Adidas Originals, Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66, Asics EX-89 and Adidas Originals Campus are a similar style of sneakers, in the sense that they’re a slimmer kind of shoe. In 2023, dad sneakers and chunky sneakers began fading out of trend, in their place we started seeing an emergence of soccer and basketball shoes coming into trend, which is where the ‘skinny-shoe’ style of sneakers began becoming the hottest thing in the market, as opposed to chunky sneakers.

But the other kinds of shoes that are trending are ones heavily influenced by the Y2K style. So, think metallic, complex-looking shoes that would hypothetically be the go-to shoe for a robot. Other than this, another Y2K influence on sneaker trend is shoes that look like ballet flats, but are also sporty – check out the Kiko Kostadinov x Heaven by Marc Jacobs x ASICS GEL-LOKROS below to see what we’re talking about.
