Hasee Toh Phasee…Not! 7 Terrible Dating Tips Bollywood Movies Gave Us In The Name Of Love
You know when Madhuri Dixit said, “Kahin na kahin, koi na koi, mere liye banaya gaya hai,” in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, I felt that. In fact, I still believe that there’s someone meant for all of us in this world. Well, Bollywood has given us a lot of relationship advice over the years that live in our hearts rent-free. But, while there are movies that got the essence of love right, a few films have messed up the rules of relationships pretty bad.
If you have been blindly following dating tips suggested by Bollywood flicks, then stop! Today, we are going to focus on relationship advice that we should definitely not follow IRL.
Scroll ahead to read some pretty bizarre gyaan that Hindi romance movies have given us in the name of love.
SMH ‘Coz These Filmy Pyaar Ka Gyaan Are Terrible AF!
You must have heard your fave actors throwing around these lines casually in romantic movies several times. Sorry to break your bubbles fam, but these rules suck. Here are some godawful pieces of relationship advice that Bollywood movies have given us:
Pyaar Sirf Ek Baar Hota Hai
Shah Rukh Khan did not say this dialogue in just Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but several other movies as well. Sorry SRK, but this is so not true. We don’t always get our desired ‘happy endings’ in love and sometimes, our hearts break—brutally. But, that doesn’t mean that we will not find our soulmates. We will, of course, we will! Love will happen when it’s meant to happen and life gives us all a second chance. TBH, several chances after that as well.
Everything Is Fair In Love & War
OMG, this quote is as old as time and it needs to get an update stat. Contrary to what several Bollywood movies tell us, everything is not fair in love. It’s a petty excuse to justify the mistakes we make in a relationship. If you are taking a problematic route to win someone’s heart and using unfair means to make a bond work, then things will defs not end well in the long run. Stay true to your partner and your heart, that’s the only way to keep a relationship alive.
Hasee Toh Phasee
No, no and just NO! Sure, it’s nice if you can make someone laugh. But, that doesn’t mean that the person who just smiled at you has fallen in love with you. It’s quite appalling that an entire movie was named after this regressive phrase and several films still promote this idea. For the last time fam, a smile is just a smile, not a declaration of love.
Make Your Partner Jealous To Grab His Attention
In Student Of The Year, instead of breaking her toxic relationship with Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt tried to make him jealous by getting cosy with Siddharth Malhotra. Hmm…here’s our advice—never try that IRL. If you have to stoop to these weird antics to grab your partner’s attention, then you need to rethink your entire relationship. Also, it’s really terrible to play with someone’s feelings for your own gains.
Your Life Is Meaningless Without Love
From Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein to Kabir Singh, there are several Bollywood movies that have tried to convince us that our life is meaningless without love. According to their problematic narratives, if we do not end up with our partners, then we will not be able to survive at all. Our broken hearts will never heal and our lives will be screwed. OMFG, relax! Yes, heartbreaks are painful, but they are not the end of the world. You can heal, move on and focus on other things that can make you happy and successful. Love is a part of life, not your entire life.
Parents’ Approval Is Everything
Hey Simran, it’s okay if bauji nahi manenge. You and your partner are grown-ups and can make important decisions in your life on your own. Yes, we do live in a society where our family’s blessings are important, but we don’t live in a fictional world where should sacrifice our happiness for our folks. Ladies, don’t take inspo from Raj-Simran and take control of your own lives.
If You Love Someone, Never Give Up
Movies like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ranjhanaa have taught us that we should never ever give up on our love. Well, un-learn everything these problematic films have tried to feed us over the years. Unrequited love may be powerful, but it should never turn into an obsession. Your crush isn’t into you? Leave them alone. Your ex wants to move on in life? Leave them alone. Your partner wants to end things and is absolutely sure about it? That’s right, leave them alone. After all, love should never be forced, hon.
Bollywood movies can come up with some pretty terrible relationship advice so, never follow everything they say blindly.
