#WeekendBinge: 7 Bollywood Movies From The 2000s That Totes Deserve A Remake

We’re obsessed with ’90s culture. We truly are. Be it movies, series, fashion sense or music, the ’90s were really special. But, do you know what is underrated? The era of 2000. Even though we’re obsessed with the Y2K fashion right now, we still need to have more appreciation for the movies that released after the year 2000. I mean, those were the times when Bollywood decided to remake some of Hollywood’s most popular rom-coms. It was the era when our entertainment industry let go of traditional *boy-meets-girl-but-daddy-disagrees* kinda love stories and got experimental. We’re talking about live-in relationships, friends with benefits, teen romances, and a lot more.

Honestly, in retrospect, we think the era of 2000 was a game-changer in Bollywood. Given that we’re currently living in the world of reboots and remakes, we thought that it would be really something if B-town remade these Y2K movies.

7 Movies From The 2000s That Bollywood Needs To Remake STAT

Here are seven Bollywood movies that released more than a decade ago and should be remade in the upcoming years:

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

The latest buzz has it that Aamir Khan is planning to cast Genelia Deshmukh in his upcoming movie. He is planning to ‘relaunch’ the actress in Bollywood and we are wondering if he can ‘relaunch’ his nephew, Imran Khan, as well. It would be amazing if they star in a project as co-stars and even more wonderful if it’s the remake of their first movie together—Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. The movie was produced by Aamir’s production house and was a major success. We think it’s the perfect time to re-watch Meoww and Rat’s love story once again but in a more mature light.

Jab We Met

Jab We Met is an epic movie and it will be quite difficult to recreate the same magic on the silver screen. But, we are sure that Kareena Kapoor Khan is the only actress who can play the role of Geet even today. Shahid Kapoor’s character, Aditya, remains one of our most favourite on-screen boyfriends ever and we would love to see this iconic jodi once again.

Aisha

Way before Hollywood found its Emily, we had our Aisha. You can love the movie Aisha or find it too extra, but you have to agree that the film is one of its kind in Bollywood. Sonam Kapoor became the official style icon of B-town right after this flick and we would love to get new fashion-inspo from her.

MP3

Kaise samjhaun tujhe, mera pehla pehla pyaar hai ye! Oh, we are still in love with this song and how can we not? At one point, this track turned into a love anthem and the movie, MP3, became every teens’ fave. Well, we deserve to watch such pure and feel-good romantic flicks once again, right?

Salaam Namaste

Honestly, Salaam Namaste did not age well with time and the same script would not work today. But, the film tried to think out of the box back then and portray a relationship that was considered unconservative. Well, brownie points for that and that alone. Also, we would love to see a remake of this film, revolving around a hatke love story, with a better script and dialogues.

Salaam-e-Ishq

It’s not easy to make a multi-starrer movie in Bollywood, but Salam-e-Ishq managed to rope in some of the biggest actors in the industry. Next, every story in the film was crafted with perfection and we still cannot choose a fave. It would be amazing to see some of the most popular B-town celebs collaborate once again for such a grand project.

I Hate Luv Storys

We want to sign a petition demanding Imran Khan’s comeback to Bollywood. His feel-good romantic movies should have a separate genre in the industry. I Hate Luv Storys was one such film that revolved around a ‘cool’ boy and an emotional girl and their not-so-complicated affair. We would love to watch a remake of this sweet and simple movie FOSHO.

BRB, binge-watching these fab movies again this weekend!
