Okay, am gonna go ahead and ‘fess up. I’ve often assumed that life must be super easy for our B-town stars. I mean all they’d have to do is learn a few lines, act and just chill. Am sure most of us have had the same thought at some point, right? Turns out, we couldn’t be more wrong. Acting is far from easy. It’s not just about learning a few lines and looking good on ‘cam. Portraying a character can be a real task. Don’t believe us? Take a look at how these Bollywood actors prepped for a particular role.
Parineeti Chopra
What’s the one thing you’d prefer to do after a long sweaty day? Take a shower, right? What if we told you that you need to sleep filthy? Sounds disgusting, hai na? Turns out, that’s exactly what Parineeti Chopra did for a shot in Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. The actor recently ‘fessed up to not showering for two days. She used to complete shooting in mud, sleep it off and return to shoot the next day in filth. That’s some dedication, right?
Alia Bhatt
Remember Alia Bhatt’s character looks like a true migrant worker in Udta Punjab? That’s probably because the actor didn’t wash or comb her hair for 20 long days. She kept her hair entangled and untidy to look true to her role. One can only imagine the relief she must’ve felt after washing her hair after so long!
Ranveer Singh
It’s no secret that Ranveer Singh takes all his characters seriously and portrays them with such finesse. One role that particularly stands out is that of Allauddin Khilji. It was almost like watching the emperor himself and not Ranveer on screen, right? Do you want to know how the Padmaavat star got in the right mind frame and portrayed his character with such flair? Turns out, Ranveer had put himself under a voluntary house arrest for almost a month. Throughout that period, he completely shut himself off from the world. Oh boy, imagine not being able to see anybody for an entire month!
Rajkummar Rao
In the movie Trapped, Rajkummar Rao plays the character of Shaurya, a call centre guy who gets trapped in his apartment with no food, water and electricity. For the role, the actor spent 3 weeks on a diet consisting of just black coffee and carrots to portray his part right. Whaaat? If only I had his dedication then it wouldn’t be so damn difficult for me to lose some weight.
Aamir Khan
We all know about Aamir’s fierce commitment to all his projects. But did you know how the actor prepped for his role in PK? Turns out, he actually ate 10,000 paans while shooting the film. OMG! For every take, he ate a fresh paan. And before starting the shoot, he used to eat 10-15 paans to get the paan stain on his lips. WTF! No wonder he’s rightly called Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood.
Saif Ali Khan
Who can forget Saif Ali Khan’s epic role as Langda Tyagi in Omkara? Want to know how his character looked so real? Well, apart from constant prep, the actor actually stopped brushing his teeth completely for 15 days. He did it to get that yellow tinge for his role. Yikes, can only think of how his co-stars managed to shoot with him for that period.
There are so many other names we can add to the list but we’ll save that for another day. But for now, all we can say is that actors certainly don’t have it easy!
