Mumbai Diaries 26/11 – Amazon Prime
This eight-part series is a medical crime thriller set in the emergency room of a hospital. Taking you on a rollercoaster of emotions, it follows the travails of night of terror, November 26, 2008. The writing gives us a humane view of the crises and the gut-wrenching narrative is tied with themes of solidarity and sacrifice. The Talwars: Behind Closed Doors – HBO
A horrific crime that was sensationalised by the media and police, the Aarushi Talwar crime case of 2008 is unforgettable. Revisiting the gruesome murder of 13-year-old Aarushi and domestic worker Hemraj Banjade, the series unravels the secrets behind double deaths. The show not only deals with the changing suspects and lack of real proof, but tactfully depicts the struggle of the lower class who are often framed for crimes they didn’t commit.
Delhi Crime – Netflix
This show follows the aftermath of the heinous Nirbhaya gang rape, an incident that shocked and shamed mankind. Real, raw and hard-hitting, it has a unique and refreshing take on the ‘cat and mouse’ story. Not only does it vehemently explores how women of our country are being treated, but also makes subtle commentaries on the socio-political-economic conditions. Crime Stories: India Detectives – Netflix
Based in India’s Silicon Valley, Bengaluru, this Netflix original docu-series follows policemen as they attempt to solve violent crimes. The show successfully gives us a deep and realistic window into the lives of the cops and makes us sympathise with their plight of catching criminals. Setting itself apart from other documentaries, this one also explores how tech and cop collide to intelligently get one step ahead of the bad guys.
