Summers are good for your mood but the humidity is definitely not kind to your makeup. Stepping out of the shower and lounging in your towel belting out mere khwabon mein jo aaye… isn’t even a thing anymore. You try and attempt it and you’d have taken shower number two before Raj even appears in your dreams. While summer makeup looks are on the rise, it is absolutely annoying to see your eyeshadow look like it has been stamped on in patches haphazardly or see beads of sweat forming over your seemingly matte foundation. Of course, there is the option to rock your natural face, but then slightly unrealistic. Well, here I have some tried and tested hacks and tricks to make sure your makeup doesn’t crease or melt into your ice cream!
Primer Is Your Best Friend
A matte primer is something you should invest in for the season even if you don’t use primer regularly. It forms a layer in between your makeup and your skin, so it prevents the sweat from melting in your expensive foundation.

Sunscreen Keeps Things Cosy
Double up the effect of your primer by using an oil-free matte sunscreen. The SPF, of course, can help with sun protection but also acts as an extra primer.
POPxo recommends: VLCC Glow+ Sun Screen Lotion Spf 20, Rs 140
Accept Silicone
Swap your fave foundation with a silicone based formula. It absorbs the oil on your skin keeping it matte. It is also water resistant, so there’s no danger in the sweat melting off your face.
POPxo recommends: M.A.C Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation, Rs 3,050
Blot Through Your Routine
Use oil blotting sheets to blot in between steps when doing your makeup. Ideally, do this BEFORE you set your makeup with a setting powder. That way you’re not adding the powder to the grease.
POPxo recommends: NYX Professional Makeup Matte Blotting Paper, Rs 340
Setting Spray Is A Must
Setting your makeup with just powder isn’t going to be enough. Once you’re done with your whole face, spray with a mattifying setting spray to seal the deal.
POPxo recommends: Wet n Wild Photo Focus Matte Setting Spray – Matte Appeal, Rs 499
Give Your Eyes A Little Moisture
Use a cream based eyelid primer before applying your eyeshadow or dampen your eyeshadow brush with setting spray before applying your powder eyeshadow. That way, the pigmentation becomes stronger and your eyelids don’t crease.
POPxo recommends: NYX Professional Makeup Concealer Jar, Rs 468
Forego Eye Makeup
This season try and steer clear from heavy eye makeup looks. Instead, opt for a pair of falsies or curling and volumizing mascara to open up your eyes and give your makeup look a boost.
POPxo recommends: Colorbar Lash Illusion Mascara Duo – Black, Rs 450
Go Waterproof
If you’re applying eyeliner or kohl, this season there is a 100% chance of you walking around with panda eyes without knowing. To avoid this debacle, just use waterproof eyeliner and kohl.
POPxo recommends: Provoc Semi-Permanent Gel Eye Liner, Rs 600
Creme Blush Is Your Mate
Powder blush tends to become patchy as the day progresses. Instead, opt for a cream blush, it blends better and gives you a sun-kissed glow.
POPxo recommends: Inglot AMC Cream Blush, Rs 1,250
Less Is More
While we are used to layering on products for our skincare routine, try and keep the products to a minimum when you’re planning on applying makeup. With the grease and humidity, you don’t want your makeup to turn into a crazy slip-n-slide fiesta. Another hack for this is to use the cool setting on your blow dryer in between your skincare steps to aid your products to seep into the skin better.
POPxo recommends: Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturiser SPF 15, Rs 337
Carry A Toning Mist
Use it in between your makeup steps or during the day to freshen things up. A toning mist will keep your face hydrated without ruining your makeup.
POPxo recommends: Juicy Chemistry Aloe Vera Water, Rs 450
Make The Dew Work For You
Despite your attempts, sweat will still grace your face. Just add a cream highlighter to the high points on your face. That way if your face gets dewy, it just looks like extra highlight!
POPxo recommends: Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Liquid Strobe, Rs 650
Sweat Isn’t Hydration
While we know the humidity is making you sweat buckets, it does not necessarily mean you’re hydrated. You’re actually losing water, so the drier the skin the more chances of it creasing. Your under eye area is the main target here. So dab on a nice eye cream and wait till it absorbs before you start on your base.
POPxo recommends: VLCC Almond Under Eye Cream, Rs 158
Well, hope these hacks work for you. Did I miss anything?
