Known as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’, Eid al-Adha is celebrated in the honour of one of Allah’s strongest devotees named Ibrahim. It is believed that Ibrahim experienced a dream one night in which Allah had told him to sacrifice Ismail, his beloved son. Without thinking twice, he was ready to obey Allah’s command and do as he was instructed. But it was just a test from Allah to confirm his devotion, obedience and submission.
Therefore, Ibrahim passed the test and later, as per Allah’s instructions, a male goat was sacrificed instead. Since then, Muslims around the world perform Qurbani to remember what he did and sacrifice a goat using certain rituals and practices in the memory of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice. They use his deed to inspire obedience and devotion towards Allah in their own lives. Hence, Bakra Eid or Eid al-Adha became one of the most revered Islamic festivals around the world and is celebrated with great pomp and show.
