The world of beauty is full of myths, and arguably even more so when it comes to the skin. There are traditional practices that couldn’t be more wrong & random facts that need to be cleared up! It’s time we separate fact from fiction, are you ready?
Myth 1: You Don’t Need To Moisture Oily Skin
Nope, every skin type needs to be moisturised, daily!
When we wash our face, we strip away the natural oils from the skin. Then, it’s our skin’s job to produce excessive oil to make up for the moisture loss and you know what that means– clogged pores and acne.
So to avoid your skin turning into a ground for acne and bacteria, please hydrate your skin regularly with a lightweight or a water-based moisturiser. Using niacinamide can help you plenty to control excess sebum production too.
Myth 2: Natural Means Safe
Admit it, you too thought that using natural ingredients is far better than using products that are formulated by scientists. There are lots of brands that would have you believe natural and chemical-free is the best way to go. That’s a myth we want to bust for you today.
Not all chemicals are bad. Some chemicals are great and are added to products to stabilize formulations & boost efficacy and not all natural products or DIYs are safe for your skin. Natural products can go bad quickly and DIYs can irritate your skin. Natural products are formulated with alternatives to clinical ingredients and therefore, might not be as effective or potent. Even if they are effective, they may take much longer to give you the same results. Whereas when you are using a product that is commercially available, the results will be consistent as each product is formulated in a lab and dermatologically tested.

Myth 3: You Don’t Need Eye Cream If You Don’t Have Dark Cricles
There’s a lot of chatter in the beauty industry about whether an eye cream is just an overpriced moisturiser. While an undereye cream isn’t a necessity, taking good care of your under-eye area is important. The skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face which is why you notice the first signs of ageing around the eyes. So, whether you use an under eye cream or not, make sure you give this area the TLC it deserves.

Myth 4: Luxe Means Best
Oh, no honey! Just because a product costs a tiny fortune, it doesn’t mean that it’ll magically banish all your skin woes. The secret lies in the ingredients, texture and formulation. The product may have the best ingredients in the world but in small concentrations, making it a complete waste of money.
Usually, we end up paying so much more because of the brand name and not because the product has some magical properties. Always check out the ingredient list first, read what people are saying about the product and if possible, choose a better, cheaper alternative.
Myth 5: Steaming Can Open Pores
Ok, let’s put an end to this, once and for all. Your pores cannot ‘open’ or ‘close’. You cannot get rid of them or make them smaller (at least not permanently). What you can do is keep them clean. Steaming helps draw out and loosen up any impurities, dirt & dust trapped in your pores, but it cannot open your pores.
