We hear a lot of people complaining about the kind of content Indian TV soaps have to offer. But before Indian TV soaps went down the drain and saas-bahu sagas took over our screens, these TV shows with detectives as their leads kept us hooked. In fact, they were so addictive that at some point we all wanted to become detectives and solve mysteries through our jasoosi.
From ACP Pradyuman to Detective Omkar Nath, we’ve seen some of the best detectives on our television screens. Here are some Indian TV detectives who are etched deeply into our memories and we’d give just about anything to bring them back.
KD Pathak
Played by Ronit Roy, Advocate KD Pathak in Sony’s courtroom drama Adaalat was beyond amazing. KD Pathak was not just any lawyer. This advocate took up challenging cases, fought for justice and had a great track record of winning cases. And that’s not all, this unconventional lawyer also had an eye for detail and personally investigated cases. While it was far from reality, we loved this unstoppable and quick-thinking lawyer. Started in 2010, Addalat came to an end in 2015. The show came back with a season two in 2016 and aired 26 episodes.
Byomkesh Bakshi
The show aired on DD National from 1993 to 1997 and detective Byomkesh Bakshi was actually a fictional character created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. And we must say, his jasoosi made us want to become a detective like him, if only we could find a sidekick like Ajit Kumar Banerji.
Krishna Arjun
This Mumbai-based detective duo played by Shraddha Nigam and Hussain Kuwajerwala became a household name for their crime-solving skills. This dynamic duo managed to win hearts while solving murder mysteries, kidnapping, thefts, missing cases and frauds.
Cambala Investigation Agency
Inspired by author Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five series, this Indian TV show had a group of five kids who were brilliant at solving crimes and that too before the police could come up with any clues. And as kids, we all wanted that gang of friends to live our own jasoos dreams.
Dev Anand Burman
This Indian detective drama serial aired on ColorsTV from 2017 to 2018. Detective Dev inspired us all to not let the inner demons stop us from doing what we love. This unstoppable jasoos and Inspector Amod Narvekar worked together to solve crimes in spite of their mutual dislike for each other.
Bunty Sharma Aka Detective Didi
Remember this street-smart private detective who solved cases to run her house? Detective didi took on some interesting cases, from investigating infidelity cases to dealing with crime lords and serial killers. But wait, this show also had some romance. All thanks to Bunty’s partner and special agent Bhim Singh Bhullar. Spoiler Alert: The two got married later!
We don’t know about you but we’re all for seeing these smart detectives back on screen.
