Most of us are familiar with hair care products such as shampoos, serums, oils and conditioners. While they do work wonders for the hair, another product that’s equally good is a leave-in conditioner. It helps nourish the locks, prevents hair breakage, tames the frizz and improves the texture of the hair. The product is meant to be applied on damp hair after a shower. But before you buy a leave-in conditioner, make sure that you keep these important pointers in mind.

1. What’s your hair type?

Leave-in conditioners aren’t a one-size-fits-all kinda product. You need to buy one that suits your hair’s needs. For that to happen, you need to know what your hair type is. Whether your hair is dry, frizzy, dull or curly, there’s a special leave-in conditioner for each hair type. Usually, these details are mentioned on the product’s packaging. Always read before you buy.
2. Get yourself familiar with textures
Leave-in conditioners can come in either a gel, cream or spray form. If your hair is thin, a leave-in conditioner spray would be ideal as it won’t weigh the hair down. If you have voluminous, thick hair, you should opt for a cream or gel-based leave-in conditioner. Remember, when applying leave-in conditioner always apply from the bottom and then make your way to the roots. For short hair, use a leave-in conditioner that is as big as the size of one blueberry. For medium length hair, make that two blueberries and long hair till the derriere, you’ll need to use leave-in conditioner product that’s as big as 3 blueberries.
3. Leave-in conditioners are for special occasions

You can’t use leave-in conditioners every day because these products will leave behind product buildup on your scalp. If you don’t wash your hair often and use a leave-in conditioner every alternate day, product residue, dirt, bacteria and sebum will collect on your scalp and cause fungal infections. Once in a way when you want to take a break from applying conditioner, you can use a leave-in conditioner in its place.
Here’s hoping that you find a leave-in conditioner that loves your locks as much as you do!
