Over the past few years, Korean beauty has almost taken over the makeup and skincare industry and everyone wants to join the bandwagon. When it comes to makeup, they are the masters in owning that cute, barely-there, and fresh look. One trend that has been popular for quite some time now is the gradient or just-sucked-on-a-cherry-lollipop lip. It’s basically a soft bloom of colour from the centre of the mouth to give a made an effort yet not too much vibe. Innocent and flattering, this makeup trend can be tried by all.
Keep reading on to find out how to ace this Gram-worthy makeup look.
Step One: Exfoliate Your Lips To Have A Smooth Canvas Base
Exfoliating your lips is just as important as exfoliating your body because you’ve got to get rid of the dry, flaky skin to ensure that you have a smooth canvas to start on. Gradient lips require extra juiciness and this will help with that. Follow this exfoliating routine twice a week for soft and supple lips. Just a reminder, use the lip scrub gently on your lips in circular motions because if you’re too harsh, it could cause scabs and cuts.
Step Two: Apply Lip Balm To Smoothen And Hydrate Your Lips
With all the rough dead skin out of the way, it is time to hydrate and moisturise your lips. Look for products that have ingredients like shea butter and olive oil which helps to nourish and regenerate healthy cells on your lips. Don’t go for menthol or cooling lip balms because they tend to dry out your lips even more. Once you apply the lip balm, give it some time for your lips to really soak in the goodness and before using lip colour, use tissue or blotting paper to take off the extra product.
Step Three: Use Concealer On Your Lips For An Even Tone
If you’re not used to this it may feel a little strange at first but actually a lot of people conceal their lips before putting on lipstick for a more true-to-shade look. Using concealer will neutralise your lips’ natural colour and your gradient lips will pop even more. So, dab on a small amount of concealer on to the back of your hand and use a finger to get a tiny bit of the product and tap it gently over your lips.
Step Four: Apply Your Fave Lip Colour
Now comes the fun part! Fill in the inner and lower area of your lips with the colour, this can be a bullet lipstick that you’ve taken on your finger and dabbed it or even liquid lipstick that you’ve lightly dotted and blended.
Step Five: Blend Out The Lipcolour
The statement of a gradient lip is that it looks seamless and without any harsh lines- that only comes from blending. Using a lip brush, a cotton bud, or your own finger, blend the edges of your lip colour with a left-to-right wiping motion. Cotton buds, in particular, are especially popular in getting the gradient lip look. They’re small and easy to bring around, it’s more hygienic, and they’re able to reach areas like the inner corners of your lips which your fingers may make a mess of.
