Hands up, who has curly hair? Look I get it, you never wake up with your hair looking the same way twice or hairbrushes are a joke for you. But if you’re staring at me (a straight-haired girl), longingly, and thinking, ‘I am so lucky, I have poker straight hair’. I am here to burst your bubble. The grass is not greener on this side either. In fact, it’s wearisome and stubborn (literally and metaphorically). Having straight hair has always been boring and the only way I can style them up is by tying them up in a bun.
Sometimes, I colour them for a ‘change’, but that ruins the texture of my hair so I now am back to buns and ponytails AGAIN. Now, you may have thought straight hair can be styled in so many different ways. From curling to crimping, there’s a lot one can do with straight hair, right? Wrong! No hairstyle lasts for more than an hour. Yes! You can go back and read it again. To be honest, my hair can put any setting spray to shame.
I have been looking for styling kits that can make my hairstyles last for at least 4-5 hours (good enough to attend a wedding and come back home). Not so much to ask for, right? So, when I got a chance to use the much-talked-about Dyson Airwrap Styler, I thought you guys should know everything I feel about this hair appliance. But first, say hello to my natural hair.
Scrolling through my phone for this picture made me realise how often I click pictures with my styled curly hair and not very often with my regular straight hair. Clearly, I am always on the lookout for something that will change the way my hair looks. So, when I got my hands on the Dyson Airwrap Styler, I could not wait to give it a try. But before that, there were a few questions I had in mind.
- Is it going to be easy? (PS: I am very impatient with curling rods)
- Am I going to burn hair or myself? (I have burn marks from each time I have tried curling my hair on my own)
And most importantly…
- Are the curls going to stay? (Because as you already know by now, they never do!)
So, from the looks of it, honestly, I assumed that this was going to be another disappointing session. But Dyson claims that the Dyson Airwrap styler can create a variety of styles using high-speed air while reducing the exposure to extreme heat. So the promise of no more overheat damage to hair while being able to create different styles in a healthy way was worth a try. Read on to know my experience!
The Dyson Airwrap styler comes in three different variants, each with specific attachments designed for different hair types. First, the Dyson Airwrap styler volume + shape, which can be used to add volume to thin hair. Second, the Dyson Airwrap styler smooth + control for frizzy hair and third, the Dyson Airwrap styler Complete which includes all the three attachments.
I had the Dyson Airwrap styler Complete, which comes with a pre-styling dryer, 30mm Airwrap barrel, 40mm Airwrap barrel, a firm smoothing brush, a soft smoothing brush and a round volumising brush. Basically, this is all you need in your house if you’re someone who loves to style your hair frequently. So, I started by drying my hair with the pre-styling dryer that prepares your hair for styling using a fast airflow. You can add the extensions to one main dryer and use them as per your need.
Usually, I don’t blow dry my hair and let them dry naturally. However, after using this brush, I realised how easy it can get if I am planning to step out right after washing my hair. I was impressed with the technology that dried my hair within minutes. But I needed more than just drying my hair, so I replaced the dryer with a curling extension to understand the hoo-ha behind this kit.
The moment I switched it on, my hair wrapped around the curler like magic. It literally took me 15 seconds and least effort to get these curls. It usually takes me 2000 days and 10 burn marks to finally get the perfect hair (no, I am not kidding). So, you should know that I was IMPRESSED.
Soft curls never looked this pretty! Exactly after 15 minutes, voila I had the perfect curls!
I was impressed to have styled my hair without burning myself or losing my patience. However, the real deal was to see whether the curls stay or not. And to my surprise, the curls stayed till the next day.
Well, that happened because Dyson works on the Coanda effect. What’s that, you ask? I too recently found out. Coanda Effect is the tendency of fast-moving air travelling over a surface to attach to that surface. So, even if that surface is curving away, the air will attach and follow that. That explains how my hair magically attached itself to the barrel, right? So, no burning myself or my hair. Yay!
So, did the Dyson Airwrap Styler make me happy? Yes! Did it burn me? No! Am I going to use it again? Hell yeah! The Dyson Airwrap Styler Complete, made for different hair types, is available for INR 40,900/-. You can get yours from the website. You can also check out for the no-cost EMI options listed on the website. Hurry up!
The fact that I can now curl my hair without damaging them (or myself) is the biggest selling point of this curler. I cannot wait to share this with my mom as she is as clumsy as me when it comes to styling her hair. She’s going to love this!
