Casual, Comfy & Corduroy: Here’s How I Dress Up The 90s Fave Trend… In 2020

There are three things you’d always find at the POPxo office – cake (and loads of it), cute doggos running around and fashion-forward women. There’s makeup talk, chatter about which thrift store has the cutest stuff and furious coffee-table discussions about the events of the day while getting work done. That’s us all day, every day! Except for this week when we have something extra going on.

Our in-house video star and fashion guru Upalina Gupta is walking around the office, picking one look each day that she finds wearable yet stylish, and today it was my turn! Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself only. I’m Anandita Malhotra, senior writer at POPxo and when I’m not typing away on my laptop I’m thinking about which bright lipstick to try next.

My fashion mantra in winter is layering – sweaters, tees and shirts along with jackets is the easiest thing to put together and that’s what I go for. Although, this season I feel like I’ve taken a time machine to the 90s because everything I wear, somehow, has a certain yesteryear vibe to it. Here’s my Monday look decoded!

Sweater Weather

Slightly flared jeans and white sneakers are what complemented my love for sweater today. And to beat the Monday blues, I chose pink. Since I travel by metro and the walk is quite a bit, I prefer wearing sneakers to work instead of heels or boots. And I love my Superstar sneakers by Adidas Originals!

Not So Coy In Corduroy

Okay, guys, here’s a disclaimer! I’m not a fashion genius and I just can’t visualise looks in my head. But what I am good at is taking inspiration from others. If you have a look at my ‘Saved’ folder on Instagram, you’d know what I’m talking about.

Currently, I’m binge-watching Gilmore Girls and Lorelai’s style just speaks to me. This maroon corduroy jacket with a turtleneck sweater that you see on me is what she was wearing in one of the episodes, and all I could think was – I want one too! So, I quickly browsed through my two favourite fast-fashion outlets, H&M and Zara, and found a similar one. This trend is really picking on in 2020, right?!

On days when I keep my ensemble easy-going and casual, it is my makeup that I like to focus on. For me, there’s only one thing that can combat Monday morning blues and that’s a lippie-stick. In winters usually, I go for deeper maroons and burgundy tones and let my lips be the focal point. I also like my skin to have a bronzed glow and use a shimmery bronzer to achieve that. Defined brows and fluttery lashes are a must in my makeup routine. Two things I always skip when it comes to makeup is blush and concealer because I already have a naturally flushed complexion. Oh, well!
