Most of us have great skin in our teens and it is easy to get away with just about anything. I used to pull off a bold, red pout and flashy highlighter with ease. I never fussed about using a moisturiser or even sunscreen. I went straight from the shower to a full face of foundation and my skin still looked great! Some days, I wouldn’t even bother to take my makeup off before bed. But now that I’m in my mid-twenties, it’s a completely different story. As we grow older, our skin loses its elasticity and we struggle to maintain it. Dry skin, blemishes, clogged pores are pretty common if you continue to neglect your skin. Struggling with a few of these problems, my approach to makeup completely changed. 

 

 

I now focus on skincare and skin prep much more than I fuss about makeup. Whether it’s work or date night, prepping your skin is the way to begin. 

My skin needs to feel good and look healthy before I get started with makeup. Prepping my skin helps me use much lesser makeup, somedays all I use is a concealer. Remember this, with the right skin prep – your makeup will be practically undetectable. But don’t be overwhelmed, it doesn’t take long. It’s as quick as making yourself some Maggi! 

Here’s My Take On Date Night Makeup

You want that au naturale makeup look with dewy skin right? Great! I’m gonna tell you how to get it right for date night, babe!

But First, Cleanse!

The very first thing you want to do before applying any kind of makeup is to wash your face with a mild cleanser. The one I have chosen is by MyGlamm and it’s a germ-killing one. It removes impurities and nourishes the skin as it is enriched with tea tree oil, Vitamin E, cucumber extract, and aloe vera. You’ve really got to try it to believe it!

 

Befriend A Toner

After washing your face, your next step is using a toner. Pick one that’s free from parabens and alcohol. My skin is a little dry so I prefer to use a hydrating, nourishing toner. Once you’re done, it’s time to move on to the next step!

It’s Time To Get Your Glow On!

After all the cleansing and toning, it’s time to moisturise! I’m currently in love with the Skin So Smooth face crème from POPxo. After using it for a couple of weeks, I’ve noticed a positive change in my complexion. The glow is back and so is the smoothness. All you need to do is massage a coin-sized amount of this all over your face and neck. 

Now that your skin is prepped to perfection, it’s time to prime. Always, always begin with a primer. I tell you, ladies, this product helps to create a smooth base and extends the wear of your foundation and concealer. Use a pea-sized amount and leave it to air dry for 2-3 minutes.

As I mentioned before, I’m done with heavy makeup. ‘Less is more’ is my mantra now. I want my skin to breathe and not look like its weighed down with product. Hence, concealer makes the cut for me. I apply some to my under eye area and spot conceal to get rid of any blemishes and discolouration. An important makeup product for me on date nights is blush! You want to look like you’re naturally blushing in love, right? Now it’s time to add that spark to your look. Choose one feature you want to play up – either your eyes or your lips. If you’re applying eye shadow, a soft smokey eye is sexy and mysterious. If you’d rather have a poppin’ pout then play up your lipstick. To keep things monotone, I choose to apply a shade of lipstick that’s a tad bit darker than my blush. I always finish my date night look by coating my lashes and brows with mascara.

This is exactly how my makeup look turned out. Yay or nay, guys?

As I intended it to be, my makeup look is subtle feminine and romantic and I’ve used only a handful of products to help me accentuate my existing features. I believe that if your skincare routine and diet is on point, the makeup you wear will look even better. ‘Coz honey, hydrated skin equals to happy skin!
