Skincare could easily have been my middle name if we could pick our middle names. For as long as I have known about beauty, skincare has always been my passion. I started with the simple cleanse-tone-moisturise regime like the rest of us, but now I pride myself on being the skin whisperer. I somehow sense what my skin wants at all times. My favourite beauty guru while I was growing up once said, “if the base isn’t right, your makeup will always look like a mask. But if your base is right, things will fit like second skin.” This has stuck with me since then.
I am always on the lookout for new products especially moisturisers that keep my skin supple and hydrated. But there is one step that I did a little wrong. Exfoliation and cleansing! For the longest time, I thought that if the scrub wasn’t harsh and didn’t make your skin red, then it probably wasn’t doing a good job anyway. But I was proven wrong recently and here’s how.

The research
I’ve dabbled with cleansing brushes for a while, and I always would use them enthusiastically for a week or two and then it would go back into the box and probably never come out. This, until I read and saw videos where the biggest names in beauty were using the Luna 2 by Foreo and raving about how adding this to their skincare routine was the best decision they had made. After reading up on the device, there were three things that immediately grabbed my attention – gentle exfoliation, healthier skin and TWO MINUTES. Yes, two minutes is all that was apparently needed for my skin to feel the difference. The one other thing that immediately got me thinking was the touchpoints on the head of the Luna 2. The soft silicone bristles on the cleansing tool have different touchpoints and different colours according to skin type. Purple is for sensitive skin, pink for normal skin, blue is for combination skin, and green is for oily skin. I ordered the blue owing to the fact that I have normal skin with an oily T-zone.

First impressions
Yes, I am a visual being. As soon as I opened the box and saw the vibrant bright blue and I was sold. There are two sides to this cleansing brush. The bristle side as I said earlier has touchpoints designed specifically according to your skin type. For example, the one for oily skin has broader touchpoints for a thorough cleanse whereas, the one for sensitive skin has softer, finer touch-points to be extra-gentle on skin. The other side is the anti-aging side which can be used to give your face a gentle massage and work in your moisturizer and serum seamlessly into the skin.

Usage
All you need to use the Luna 2 is your usual face wash. The cleansing tool is completely 100% waterproof, non-porous and antibacterial silicone and can be used in the shower as well. The Luna 2 has various intensities that can be increased and reduced with the plus and minus buttons.
Step 1: I started off with just applying my regular face wash all over the face. Then pressed the button once to start the device off and gently moved it around my face.
Step 2: The Luna 2 pulses after 15 seconds so you know it’s time to move onto the next area of the face. So basically, I will take care of the left cheek and move onto the right after the pulse, then moving onto the forehead, nose and chin area.
Step 3: After the 4 pulses, I like to also work the cleansing tool on my neck as well.
Step 4: Once done, I rinsed off the face wash, I also rinsed and wiped the Luna 2 and go through with the rest of my skincare routine.
Step 5: Before the moisturiser, when I applied serum, I decided to use the anti-ageing side. It gives out gentle low-frequency pulses to ensure the product gets worked into the skin properly and also over time reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
Step 6: I then added the moisturiser and the skincare routine was complete. I wiped the serum residue off the Luna 2 and put it on my shelf.
The verdict
Luna 2 by Foreo is a game-changer. It is definitely a tool for someone who takes their skincare seriously. The first time I used the product, I was a little sceptical. Because as I mentioned earlier I didn’t realise that gentle cleansing and exfoliation could also work. But literally after the first time, I could feel that my skin felt smooth to touch. The products went on a lot more smoothly. This month of regular usage is making me wonder how I did skincare without the Luna 2 before. While this tool is for serious skincare junkies, it is one of the most low maintenance tools I have owned. Cleaning the brush head is the easiest thing, the brush head doesn’t have to be replaced and just one charge gives you more than 450 uses. Now I wait to do my nighttime skincare routine and reach for the Luna 2 on my beauty shelf instead of it lying around in its box. This is definitely the new frontier when it comes to skincare and self-care.
