Pimples, pimples, pimples! What can I say? It’s one of those mysteries even modern science hasn’t quite figured out yet. These pesky fellows have a way of creeping up just before an important event, don’t they? And how do you get rid of them? Unfortunately, since no two people are the same, it’s not necessary that what works for me will work for you. I get that and that’s why I asked 6 power women at POPxo to spill the beans on what helps them get rid of pimples.

Mario Badescu – Buffering Lotion
I’ve had a long and painful association with that one odd pimple that decides to make itself a home on my face. I’m talking months of having a bump and even longer to get rid of the scar. I get what they call ‘cystic acne.’ Those under-the-skin pimples that are painful and don’t come to the surface (until they feel like). I’ve found not one but two holy grail products that make these pimples go away eventually. For the first week, I bathe the zit with the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion and when I finally see the pimple coming to the surface, I apply the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion to it.

Kama Ayurveda – Anti-Acne Cleansing Foam
To be honest, acne has never been the biggest of my problems. It could be genetic or the fact that I consume enough fluids every day and go through with a 3-day detox routine at least once a month. However, in the humid season and with pollution, I do face acne issues occasionally. And in those days, Kama Ayurveda’s anti-acne cleansing foam makes my skin feel comforted. It has neem, tea tree oil, and tulsi which are great for deep purification and drying out the existing acne. I use it every night until the acne and acne scar has vanished. It makes my skin feel pampered and clean and not to forget its alluring aroma that doesn’t allow me to switch the product.

Benzoyl Peroxide 5%
Though I never dealt with acne as a teenager, adult acne hit me in my mid-20s like a speeding bus. One day my skin was clear and dewy and then the next I woke up with deep, painful cystic acne. I’ve successfully learnt to curb and manage my acne over the last few years and it’s taken a LOT of trial and error visits to derms, expensive skincare products and even disgusting smelling ayurvedic drinks. Now I’ve realised that the best way to deal with acne is to keep it simple! Cleanse your face twice a day with an extremely gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils and a lightweight gel moisturiser. After that, I just use Benzoyl Peroxide 5% over any active acne, and this magic solution dries it out in days! The trick is to start applying it as SOON as you notice an acne flare-up. I’ve honestly never found anything else that works as good as this and the best part is you can get it at your local chemist for an extremely affordable price!

Khadi India – Organic Neem Powder
I trust only home remedies when it comes to pimples and acne. A tried and tested solution is a paste of neem leaves and turmeric powder. Take a handful of washed and dried neem leaves and make a powder. Add a pinch of turmeric and enough water to make a paste. Apply the paste all over the face and let it dry. Wash off with cold water. You can also use organic neem powder from Khadi India if you can’t get your hands on natural neem leaves.

Fabindia Neem Tulsi FaceWash Scrub
There are a few other products that give good results wrt acne and are definitely worth a try. The Innisfree Bija Trouble Gel Cream is one such product. It contains Torreya seed oil and 2% Salicylic acid.
And last, but certainly not the least, this is one of Korea’s most loved products. Yep, I’m talking about pimple patches. The Face Shop Dr.Belmeur Clarifying Spot Patch Kit contains two types of pimple patches. These are small transparent dots that are concentrated with salicylic acid and hydrocolloid. You just place them on your pimple for a couple of hours and watch them do their magic.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Gel is a great addition to your purse. It comes with a concealer applicator that makes it wonderful for those on-the-go touch-ups.
