While it sounds like a love story would look or feel incomplete without an intimate scene, Bollywood is pro at portraying romantic stories without even a kiss scene. Why do they do so? Well, apart from the fact that some storylines don’t really demand a lip lock, some actors do not approve of kissing their co-actors in their contract.
Bollywood actors who refused to lock lips on-screen
Here is a list of your favourite B-town celebs who refused to lock lips with their co-star on-screen.
Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi doesn’t feel comfortable with kissing onscreen and her principles are not flexible at all. While shooting for the film Holiday, she was almost about to kiss Akshay Kumar as per the scripts demand but it didn’t happen the way script said.
Salman Khan
Even when SRK broke his no-kiss rule for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Salman remains rigid about his beliefs and he apparently looks down upon the actors who do kiss on-screen. In fact, he once announced, “I don’t have respect for people who kiss onscreen.” Ouch.
Fawad Khan
Fawad Khan, despite getting enough offers, has refused to kiss on screen as he believes his Pakistani fans are a bit orthodox and won’t be able to digest his kissing scenes. In the past, he has refused to kiss Sonam Kapoor and Alia Bhatt for the same reason.
Shilpa Shetty
When Richard Gere kissed Shilpa Shetty, the news went viral in no time and not in a good way. The fans were upset and that took a toll on her life. With trolls and media criticising the act, Shilpa couldn’t come out of the frenzy for a long time. Since then, she decided to not kiss anyone on screen.
Riteish Deshmukh
For the first time, Riteish refused to kiss in Jane Kaha Se Ayi Hai and since then, he has maintained this rule. As per him, a kiss is a very private moment and must happen behind closed doors. It’s not an emotion to be showcased onscreen to the world.
Asin
Asin once said that she is “not too comfortable kissing onscreen” and she has maintained that so far. She refused to kiss Aamir Khan in a film and the script had to be changed because of that. She comes from a conservative family who wouldn’t be comfortable watching Asin in an intimate moment on screen.
Bobby Deol
Since the beginning of his Bollywood career, Bobby Deol has kept away from kissing scenes. He may have been shown kissing from behind but it was never a real lip lock. His father and brother may have done the scenes on screen but no one knows the real reason why Bobby Deol stayed away from it.
Ajay Devgn
Since his first film in 1992, Phool Aur Kaante, Ajay Devgn found it very uncomfortable to kiss his co-stars on screen. Hence, he kept away from it. He may have done a few intimate scenes as per the scripts demand but never locked lips.
Suniel Shetty
Suniel Shetty’s perception of the actor and Bollywood has always been different. He always felt that actors aren’t meant to kiss and dance with their actresses in the films. They are rather meant to fight and look macho. That’s the reason why Suniel Shetty has never kissed in his movies. He found it more comfortable to not kiss.
Tamannaah Bhatia
This Bollywood beauty is very popular for her work in South Indian films. Tamannaah started her career in a clean way and she never felt comfortable wearing a bikini in her films. She chose shorts over that. Tamannaah refused to wear a bikini for a Sajid Khan film saying “I don’t kiss on screen and nor will I ever don a bikini. I have followed it so far and continue to do so.” She is a shy girl, she feels that it’s not for her and has never agreed to a kissing scene onscreen.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Aishwarya had said no to the Madhur Bhandarkar film, Corporate as she wasn’t comfortable with the intimate scenes in it. However, later she went ahead and did a kiss scene with Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2 and romanced Ranbir Kapoor in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Kangana Ranaut
Currently, this women is making headlines by the week for her views on Bollywood but she is also not very fond of intimate scenes. She rejected The Dirty Picture for the number of intimate scenes it had.
Sunny Leone
Yup! Sunny Leone has rejected the idea of doing an intimate scene in the film Beiimaan Love. Director wasn’t happy with her decision but she said no. However, we have seen her doing sensual scenes in the past but now she has made her terms of work much clearer about such scenes.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
Bebo too had rejected Karan Johar’s Badtameez Dil starring Emraan Hashmi as she also follows the no intimate scenes and kissing scenes rule in Bollywood.
