Salman Khan celebrates 30 years in Bollywood today, with over 103 movies to his credit. Out of them all, his most iconic characters so far have all been ‘Prem’. The actor has trademarked the name, figuratively, and turned it into his on-screen persona. From the quiet portrayal in Hum Saath-Saath Hain to the first love feels in Maine Pyar Kiya, he really has given us memorable characters that stayed with us over these three decades. So, I decided to make a list of his most endearing roles as Prem in this article.
1. Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!
From his signature cough ‘uhu uhu’ to his on-screen chemistry with Madhuri Dixit-Nene, this movie will always remain legendary. The role made Salman Khan the household lover-boy.
2. Judwaa
The shy, sweet and lost Prem Malhotra in this film is actually the nicest character Salman Khan has played on-screen. His twin, on the other hand, was a chauvinist and a terrible role model.
3. Maine Pyar Kiya
Salman Khan first film in a leading role, Maine Pyar Kiya set the foundation of his chocolate boy image. Let’s be honest though, he was pretty adorable in this movie.
4. Hum Saath – Saath Hain
Yes, the infamous movie that has a twisted backstory. But let’s not step into court cases, for now, this movie had over 30 characters and Salman Khan’s Prem was one of the best ones.
5. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
The movie with Sonam Kapoor’s iconic dance move and the annoying title track that gets stuck in your head. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had Prem in its title and Salman Khan in the lead role.
6. Ready
Everything about this movie was confusing and over the top, but Salman Khan as Prem offered some stability. Starring Asin and Paresh Rawal in prominent roles, this film was a fun, no-brainer watch.
7. Partner
Govinda’s comeback into Bollywood, this remake of Hitch saw the unforgettable Salman Khan and Govinda jodi with their great comic timing. This Prem was famous for his ‘love guru’ avatar and for getting Katrina Kaif to fall in love with someone else.
8. Biwi No. 1
This movie had two strong AF women played by Sushmita Sen and Karishma Kapoor, but there was also Salman Khan playing Prem, the unfaithful husband. If you haven’t watched this movie yet, watch it just for Anil Kapoor’s hilarious performance.
9. Andaz Apna Apna
This Aamir Khan and Salman Khan movie has become a cult film over the years and rightly so! It is packed with iconic dialogues, legendary scenes, and great acting. By far, the best Prem on the list.
10. Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye
If you’re a 90’s kid, you’ve probably watched this movie on the TV way too many times. It had a group of mismatched actors and a sensitive and sweet Prem who almost ended up with a broken heart!
