The UN recently began a hashtag called #BeatPlasticPollution in support of World Environment Day. And while India might not be celebrating it on a large scale, Bollywood celebrities have taken it upon themselves to work on reducing their carbon footprint.
Here Is How It Began
Show how your actions are helping to #BeatPlasticPollution for #WorldEnvironmentDay – post a selfie with your sustainable switch and tag 3 friends – TAG, you’re it! pic.twitter.com/I6cunCEFyN

Various celebrities from across India have begun their participation, and of course the UN environment goodwill ambassador, Dia Mirza was one of the first to pledge her involvement in the same.
Tag, I’m it – thanks for tagging me @adriangrenier! I switched to biodegradable sanitary napkins when I realised they are made mostly of plastic!#BeatPlasticPollution with @UNEnvironment for #WorldEnvironmentDay! Hey @sahil_sangha @aliaa08 @JNJCares – Tag, you’re it! pic.twitter.com/gmi8prQERU

Alia Bhatt followed the hashtag after being tagged by the actress, showing her contribution to the environment. And ofcourse, her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor followed with his contribution along with the team of Bharmastra.
#BeatPlasticPollution by switching to steel or glass bottles today! Plastic bottles take 450 years or more to decompose, harming us and our environment. I’m now one step closer towards purging plastic from my life. Hope you guys will make the switch too!#LetsCoexist @deespeak pic.twitter.com/VyI70hggRv

Alia Bhatt tagged Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and Sonam Kapoor to take the challenge as well. Arjun is already ready with his response.
It takes one small step to #BeatPlasticPollution! I’ve replaced using plastic bottles with a metal one. It’s convinient & environment friendly. While we’re waiting for everyone else to get on board with the same, it’s nice to see Bollywood make use of the voice they have.
