Back in the 90s, adoption was seen as a taboo in the country. Along with it came a flood of controversies, unwarranted questions and a hush-hush silence of sorts. However, despite these shackles that society put on people, some Indian celebs broke free and still adopted kids and gave them a new lease of life.
Young 20-something actors like Sushmita Sen and Raveena Tandon adopted girls and brought them into their lives and homes even after knowing the difficulties of being a single mother. They all fought hard fights, and emerged victorious and successfully welcomed these children. And we love and respect these stars even more for it.
1. Sushmita Sen
When it comes to adopting Sushmita Sen’s name is the first to pop up. The proud mommy of two adopted two girls, Renee and Alisah and walked into motherhood at the age of 25.

We were working really hard because we wanted to start a family, and this is the way it’s going to start, so it’s amazing.”
4. Subhash Ghai
The Pardes director hasn’t been too vocal about the adoption. But his adopted daughter Meghna is actually the daughter of his younger brother but was adopted by Subhash and his wife Rehana years ago.
5. Salim Khan
The youngest of the Khan tribe, Arpita Khan was adopted by Salim Khan. She was raised alongside her four siblings- Salman, Arbaaz, Sohail, and Alvira.

The mastermind behind films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, and Love Sex Aur Dhokha made us love him, even more, when he adopted Ira with his wife from a Mumbai based orphanage in 2010.
9. Mithun Chakraborty
The disco dancer, Mithun adopted Dishani when she was still a baby. She was raised along with his sons, Mahaakshay (Mimoh), Ushmey, and Namashi.
