Even as the fashion industry becomes more inclusive, whether it’s in terms of colour or size, there is no denying that curvy girls struggle to find the right kind of lingerie on a daily basis. Waving a flag of inclusivity and body positivity is the India Intimate Fashion Week that previewed a new brand for plus-sized lingerie this season.
A platform that throws light on the intimate and personal wear industry and aims to break taboos, the second edition of the India Intimate Fashion Week aimed to bridge the gap between intimate wear and the fashion industry. Whereby, they launched Melons India, a label aimed at curvy women. Spreading the message of body positivity was Dr. Mona Varonica Campbell, India’s only super plus-size transgender model, who walked the ramp as a showstopper for the designer label. “Sexiness is defined by curves. It is all about how confidently I carry myself, be it in a fully covered outfit or in a minimalist covered outfit. Size is just a number. One can look sexy in any shape and size; all come downs to how much one believes in it,” said Dr. Campbell as she took to the stage.

Founder and ideator, Niraj Jawanjal said, “The second edition of IIFW brought international fashion designers on Indian platform, which is going to stand as a leap in Indian intimate fashion industry. We were also glad to host Spanish esteem officials. IIFW is building a bridge to overcome the gap of intimate fashion in Indian fashion industry. We aim to build a powerful platform for the intimate apparel industry in India, which is still in its nascent phase considering other countries.”
The theme of the Fashion show this season was RIO CARNIVAL, it kick-started with Hong Kong-based International designer, Mona Shroff along with designer Rajiv Mehta.
Some of the other designers included were Rashmi Solanki, La Intimo, Melons India, INIFD Brand show and the grand finale was by Philipino designer Jef Albea.
