#DeathForRapists: Govt Clears Ordinance For Rape Of Girls Below 12 Years

The government has finally cleared the ordinance that we all have been waiting for. After the most brutal rape and murder of a minor in Kathua, the entire nation boiled with anger demanding justice. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finally passed the ordinance to allow courts to issue death penalty to those found guilty of raping children up to 12 years of age. The ordinance will now have to be approved in Parliament within the next six months.

Various other such brutal rapes around the country such as a nine-year-old being raped and killed in Surat has made the government sit up and take action urgently.

According to reports, On Friday, the Supreme Court, said that it has started the process to amend the POCSO Act 2012, which was made to ensure the protection of children from sexual abuse, sexual harassment and pornography. The ordinance also states, that there will be no provision for anticipatory bail for a person accused of raping a minor.

Not only that, the ordinance also states the minimum punishment in case of a rape would increase from imprisonment for 7 years to 10 years, extendable to life imprisonment. If the victim is under 16 years, the punishment would be extended from 10 years to 20 years and may go up to life imprisonment.

New fast-track courts are being set up in consultation with States and High Courts for immediate trials of rape cases.

It’s a massive victory for Indian citizens and we hope this ordinance would help us punish the guilty and set a strong precedence for everyone.
