Meet Bhutan's Jetsun Pema, The Youngest Queen In The World

May it be the stern but kind Queen Clarisse, that gave Mia Thermopolis some kickass princess lessons in Princess Diaries; the badass Queen Padme, who whooped a lot of stormtroopers in Star Wars; or even our Disney favourite Elsa, who gave little girls some serious #QueenGoals by showing how to overcome our vulnerabilities and rise above our fears – as young girls and even women, we have been forever obsessed with queens and princesses.

And lately, ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced their engagement to the world, none of us can get enough of the royal couple or stop discussing the much-anticipated royal wedding that’s going to take place in spring 2018.

However, we are here to give you some lowdown on another royal marriage, that may not have made headlines, but was certainly of historic importance. Meet the youngest queen of the world – Jetsun Pema, who reigns as the queen of Bhutan, also known as the happiest country in the world.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jetsun Pema wed Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck a.k.a ‘The Dragon King’ of Bhutan in 2011, and took on the title of the youngest queen in the world.

The stunning couple has an equally adorable love story that’s right out of a fairy tale. Jetsun Pema, although considered a commoner, has common ties with the royal family and first met the young prince at a picnic, when she was 7-year-old and he was 17. She was so fascinated by the him that she went up to him and told him she’d like to marry him.

Fast forward to when Jetsun Pema was studying in university and the the prince was already crowned the king of Bhutan, he was smitten by her intelligence, talent, and beauty, and decided she’d be the one to be his queen. And that’s where their happily-ever-after began.

The young queen is no ordinary woman in any way.  A straight-A student admitted to the finest schools in India, she passed History, Geography, Economics and English with flying colours. She’s also been a student of international relations with psychology and arts history at Regent’s College in London, and apart from Dzongkha, the official language of Bhutan, she is fluent in Hindi and English. Outgoing and remarkably talented, her interests include photography, art, and traditional Bhutanese music. How’s that for an exceptional all-rounder, huh?

In 2016, the royal couple was blessed with Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, and Bhutan celebrated the glorious occasion by planting over 1 lakh trees around the country! The lovable prince has won hearts around the world with his adorable charm, including that of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi!

How’s that for a queen of the century?
