If you’re a beauty enthusiast like me, you’d know that lip strobing is an art. Last week, I had the privilege to meet Sonic Sarwate, Global Senior Artist at M.A.C Cosmetics. Passionate about all things make-up, we decided to make most of the metallic trend.
How To Get The Metallic Look Right
When I spoke to Sonic, he had a clear-cut vision for my look. He decided to use a combination of shades from M.A.C’S Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour range to create a unique liquid suede finish.
Before he began, he handed me a wet wipe to clean off the lip colour I had on. He then used M.A.C Prep + Prime Lip (Rs 1,600) to make my pout smooth and soft. What he did next, blew my mind! He mixed two contrasting shades, Rich & Restless (Rs 2,050) and Oh, Lady (Rs 1,850) and oh, boy! The results were astonishing!
What It Feels To Wear The Metallic Trend
Initially, I was sceptical about wearing a deep wine lipstick shade, but after blending it with a pinky salmon shade, the colour looked amazing! Once both shades were blended to perfection, he used a lip applicator to apply another shade to my lips. He topped it off by using M.A.C’s Pigment – Copper Sparkle (Rs 2,200) to add that subtle yet bold metallic finish to my pout.
By the end of it, I was very happy with the look! My lips looked shimmery pink and it was the kind of shade that could be worn for both in the day and at night. He also mentioned that the copper shimmer can be used as an eyeshadow, lip colour and highlighter.

Q. What are the five make-up brushes every beginner must have in her kit?
Sonic: A blush brush, a foundation brush, a lip brush, and 2 eye brushes – one is an eyeshadow application brush and another brush to blend the product.
3. Which is the one product you use before leaving the house (and we should too?
Sonic: I think that if you’re going out in the sun, a sunscreen is what you need to have with you at all times.
4. What would be your go-to party look?
Sonic: I love two looks. If you don’t have much time, just apply some red lipstick and you’re done. If you do have time, a classic smokey eye looks gorgeous.
5. What’s the ONE make-up tip that you swear by?
Sonic: I think it’s to do with understanding your personality and make-up that works for you. Rather than trying to imitate someone else, be yourself!
