Rimple & Harpreet Narula gave us the gorgeous unconventional bridal look for POPxo’s first ever digital wedding issue. And we were extremely excited to see them break into Bollywood with Deepika’s much talked about Padmavati. The regal designs have been meticulously worked on by the Delhi based designer duo and from the extravagant lehengas in vibrant hues to leheriya printed odhnis, everything about Padmavati personifies royalty. With Deepika looking like a true princess in the recently released Ghoomar song, we couldn’t be more excited for all that’s yet to come.
To bring director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision to life, the duo underwent extensive research- from visiting Jaipur and Calico museums to studying various old textiles as well as old murals and miniature paintings. The designers revealed, “A lot of techniques have gone into creating the detailed looks that are reminiscent of the era and each look had numerous processes that were used to achieve the overall effect. The various embroideries were done at different crafts clusters spread across Rajasthan, under the guidance of our design team over a period of two months. The motifs that have been used-the lady with a parrot, the tree of life, the sun and the moon, the lion and the lotus have a deep historical symbolism that is entrenched in the ethos of the Rajput culture.”
Contrastingly, for POPxo September wedding issue, the duo took an out-of-box approach to colours and fabrics. Breaking away from conventional, the duo featured a delicate grey tulle lehenga with resplendent peacock garden embroidery. The contemporary twist to the traditional designs looked classy and gave the bride an edge over the regular bridal looks. Is there anything else a modern day bride wants?
